Great brunch, great service. Everything on their menu, french toast, pancakes, omelettes, red earth, tofu scramble and specially their potatoes, is simply awesome! I have had almost everything on their brunch menu! The servers are very friendly. If you are going in with a large group over the weekend, expect a little wait time.
Great brunch, mostly great people. Just got back from Gillie’s. Took my family and we all enjoyed our food (french toast, pancakes, eggs, Red Earth, coffee). I had the Red Earth and a pancake and it was quite delicious. Our server was very friendly and the food came out incredibly fast, which was great for my kids. My only single complaint was that when I went to ask for a couple of things we needed at the table and our server wasn’t around, an older female employee with dark hair who was cleaning up nearby did not seem thrilled to help me. I had four brief interactions with her and each was less enthusiastic than the previous. When another patron left his hat behind before we left and I told her, she didn’t seem to care. I indicated that the man was still waiting to pay, but she didn’t tell him. So I did it. Aside from that, our visit was great, food was great, and everyone else we interacted with was extremely nice.
Amazing food, creative, beautiful, and nice staff. I recommend everything.
If I had written this review of Gilies’ breakfast a year or two ago, I would’ve raved about how delicious the food is. Instead Gillies has really been hit or miss lately, but more on the miss side… Sometimes the OJ is fresh squeezed as advertised, sometimes the OJ had an awful Tang taste to it. The water sometimes tastes like chemicals, as though the glass or pitcher weren’t rinsed. But it’s the potatoes that are so disappointing… When cooked right, Gillies potatoes are DELICIOUS. But lately they’ve been too burned to eat. Most recently, they were sliced really thin (instead of in the usual chunks) and THEN burned. The server seemed surprised when I asked what had happened to the potatoes. Umm… You sat burned potato chips in front of me. Another server explained that the people who chop potatoes are inconsistent. Well, that inconsistency makes me want to reconsider breakfast at Gillies, especially when we have out of town guest.
The food was good but after I paid for brunch the waitress came out blatantly asked in front of multiple friends If I meant to pay only 10%. I was completely Facebookstunned and didn’t know how to respond. She then ushered me in and told me that I needed to double my tip which would make it 20%. I did not think that the service of taking an order and refilling coffee cups was worth 20% so i tipped as I saw fit. understand that waitresses make less than minimum wage but do NOT tell me how much I need to tip as tipping is something based on a level of service and worked performed and is at the discretion of the consumer.
BEST PLACE FOR BREAKFAST!!! Fills you up all day. There is always a wait (short 10-15 mins) on Sundays but it’s worth it.
