I tend to have a fair amount of food delivered to my apartment because I’m a lazy bastard. I also like to use apps like Grubhub, because there are no heights to which my laziness won’t ascend. Afghan Kabob Palace showed up one day as available to deliver to me, and I decided to give them a shot as it was a better option than the twelve hundred Chinese restaurants and that sandwich place that deliver to me. Lemme tell you, I was blown away. First off, they have a heck of a menu full of great middle eastern and Indian type dishes. It was difficult to decide on what to get, so I went with the old standby of chicken curry. It….it was the best chicken curry I’ve ever had in my life. It came with a little side salad and some soft, thin bread as well. I was really sick at the time, and even though it hurt to swallow, the pain never felt so good. Now I order from them twice a week, and even though there are so many great things on the menu I want to try, I can’t get over the chicken curry aka Murgh Chalow. It is phenomenal, and I highly recommend you order from them.
Terrible service and OK food. My friend and I ate there on Saturday. I was very excited to have him try Afghan food for the first time. Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience. We waited for over an hour for our food, watching as three other tables had ordered and received food before us. The service took so long that we noticed that an older couple beside us asked for their check twice and walked out without paying their bill. Finally, another server came out to fill water glasses. We told him that we had not received our vegetarian aushak. We had ordered it as an appetizer and one of the servers admitted that they sent it to another table. After the long wait, the aushak was disappointing as the vegetables on it most certainly were the type you get in the frozen section of the grocery store (you know the kind, the carrots are somehow perfectly square cubes). My main dish was tasty. I ordered the combination of spinach, squash, and potatoes. The bread reminded me of the mix that comes in a box. I don’t think we’ll be back again. One day I hope to take him to an Afghan restaurant with better service and fresher ingredients.
