Ordered online and was expecting pretty good food considering the prices (upwards of $11 per entree). Instead I received food that was cold and tasted pretty bland. My order cost over $20 and I forced myself to eat half of it as I was really hungry. Not to mention the quantity was pretty small for a $15 entree and, for the first time, I received a mini coke bottle for $3. One of the worst eating experiences I’ve had in Charlottesville and I will not be ordering from here again. YMMV
Need to improve service and food. All I can to say to the people who didn’t try this place ” don’t try it” it’s not worth it. The food is not authentic I am not sure where the chef gets his recipes from? Our Server was rude and unprofessional when we said the food was cold. Don’t let the other reviews fool you they are from the the owner’s friends. Never again!!!!
Great Non-chain find. This restaurant is in a great location on 14th street. It was a beautiful day to sit outside and eat a mediterranean meal. My friend and I both enjoyed the kabob platter, which came with a lot for what it was worth. It was a plate with a taste multiple dips for your pitta bread, but with a main course of greatly flavored chicken on top of risotto and vegetables. The serving sounds big, and even came with a salad, but it was perfectly portioned. If you filled up on one of the many starters before you could always take it home to warm up for later. This is one of the many great non- chain restaurants in Charlottesville which has a unique atmosphere and many options to choose from.
Excellent Stop. Caught an early dinner after a tour of the school. Friendly staff, fun atmosphere. We had the gyro with fries and the belly dancer salad. The gyro had a great spicy taste and the tzatziki sauce added a welcome kick of citrus. We got the large salad, which was enormous. It came with 8-10 largish pieces of falafel. I don’t each much falafel but this was terrific, very garlicky. A very fair price for the portions, would go back often if we lived in the area.
Go-to lunch spot. Solid lunch option on the corner. Pleasant service. Love the generous-sized salads (small is plenty) – solomillo is my favorite.
Worst Service. Basil had the worst service I have ever experienced in Charlottesville or anywhere. The wait staff had were the antithesis of hospitality. I will never go back there again.
Great salad, TERRIBLE service. We were visiting from NC and love Mediterranean food. Basil seemed like a cute place to sit outside since we had a 1 year old who isn’t always the cleaniest. They do not have high hairs for kids to sit outside. The waiter we had was rude and totally acted like he would rather be anywhere else then helping us. He left mid meal to go home and walked right by our table onto the street and never even said he was leaving or even acknowledged us. All the sudden we had a never waitress. All in all service was poor and we will never go back because of it. The salad however was excellent. Too bad. We have been here for 3 days and seems no one is eating there – bet it is the service killing that place. I would love to go back tonight but won’t.
