Fresh and delicious. Love this place! Top quality dim sum and bento boxes, perfectly prepared. Currently in the process of eating my way through the menu and so far have enjoyed every bite!
Yum!. Best bento box in town, delicious bubble tea, and wonderful hot & sour soup. Owner/cook is nice and helpful with questions about her dishes and the assistant/server is friendly and quick as well. If you’re looking for a casual place to eat a fresh and authentic taiwanese dinner, look no further!
Great Chinese food! The bento boxes are nice because they give you two sides of yummy nicely seasoned vegetables along with your main dish. And they have bubble tea!
Consistently good food at a fair price. I’m always a little surprised by how many people I meet who have not tried Cafe 88. The food is delicious, fresh, and affordable. The hot and sour soup is unlike any I have had before – light, fresh (full of cilantro and veggies), and without globs of cornstarch. The crispy tofu is very lightly fried and heaped with basil leaves. Eating in is spartan – the AC doesn’t keep up so well and the ambience is nil – but I am happy enough to get it to go or make my stay quick.
Wonderful Chicken!. Stopped in for lunch just yesterday, and ordered the wonderful chicken bento box. For under $8, it was a lot of food and tasted, well, wonderful (of course!). The chicken was a nicely flavored breast, served over perfectly steamed white rice, with two sides that apparently change daily. The two I was served were eggplant (with only the slightest amount of batter) in a delicious sauce, and a mixed bok choy salad. Service was very speedy and the owner/chef was attentive to everyone in the place. I have heard great things about their dim sum, scallion pancakes and bubble tea – so will be going back soon!
Quick, friendly, and tasty!. Cafe 88 is always a nice choice for a quick lunch or dinner. The owner/chef is very friendly and prepares entrees with a lot of care. I particularly like the bento box presentation, which pairs the main dish alongside two tasty vegetable side dishes. When dining in a group, be sure to try one of Cafe 88’s appetizers – I especially like the scallion pancakes.Another nice option are a number of pre-made meals – buy them on site and reheat them in your home. I haven’t tried one yet, but I’m sure that they are of a similar quality as the other entrees. Cafe 88 is most certainly a Charlottesville gem!
