Wonderful Experience. The best way to describe our experience at Fleurie is delicious! My husband and I tried Fleurie during Charlottesvilles restaurant week and we were very pleased. The meal started with bread, butter and a little pot of Polyface Farms chicken liver mousse followed by an amuse bouche of ham and pea soup. Given bigger servings, we could have called those offerings our meal and left completely happy. My husband, who hates liver, fought me for the mouse and the soup was absolutely perfect. Our appetizers and entrees were also very good. The only slight flaw was that my rock fish and my husbands half lobster tail would have been perfected with a squeeze of lemon juice or some other bit of acidity. His beef filet could not have been better and the accompanying sauce was amazing. For what its worth, a woman at the table next to ours ordered the pork entre and raved to her friends that it was the best pork she had ever eaten. The one misstep of the night was the desserts. I ordered the chocolate souffl cake and my husband had the carrot cake. The souffl cake looked wonderful, but it tasted more of flour than of chocolate. The carrot cake was more like a carrot brownie and was a tad hard and flavorless. Both cakes were served with a sorbet (passion fruit and carrot respectively) and they were both excellent. With the check, the waitress brought a plate with 6 small sweets 2 chocolate hazelnut truffles, 2 lemon tartlets and 2 small almond cakes. They were each head and shoulders above the desserts we had ordered, and could have taken the place of the other lackluster desserts. The restaurants atmosphere was lovely and our waitress was friendly, helpful and knew the menu and the wine list.
There will be no hurry, enjoying a meal at Fleurie!. Incredible! This is the first time I have started a review with this word! Fleurie simply is incredible. This little hole-in-the-wall (literally) is one of, if not the, best bistros I have ever experienced! The ambience superb, the service impeccable, the wait and service staff knowledge and professionalism fascinating. We started off with the Stuffed Ravioli and Lobster Salad accompanied by their fabulous House Breads, and I drank a Hoegaarten Ale. My better half enjoyed their wonderful Herb Encrusted Halibut perfectly prepared, incredibly tasty and fantastically presented! I salivated with the Stuffed Quail one of my favorite dishes made even better their way. The quail had just the right amount of seasoning, not to overpower the subtle gaminess, and layered on fresh veggies and new potatoes! The presentation alone was a work of art and the culinary science in its preparation was exquisite. The little things they do are what count so much. This is what a fine restaurant is all about. You have to go to Fleurie and enjoy the complete experience as much as we did… we will be back!
A PLACE TO AVOID. Terrible it is , a party of four , my bill was $ 420,00 , and I have to wait twenty minutes looking at the patee de foie in front of me waiting for some bread , as the waiter said to me let me locate the bread for you , took 20 minutes for it .please make you a big favor , avoid this place …No service , arrogance, one of the worst place I have been since years ….Also dnt joke as there are on the snob side ….
This place is amazing! We ordered the lobster bisque, the shrimp risotto, the scallops and the apple tart. The bisque was great, the risotto was cooked perfectly as were the scallops. The apple tart was the best tart we’ve ever had. Everything is fresh, homemade and well made. I give this place 5 confident stars. Will definitely go back next time we are in Charlottesville!
Wonderful experience. I had a quail appetizer, which was stuffed with duck along with caramelized endive, which was fabulous. Followed that with a special for the evening, which pork cooked two ways; a chop and melted shoulder. Absolutely outstanding. Also making the evening special was excellent service and a very thoughtful wine list. I look forward to returning to Fleurie many times! Since I posted the review above, we have returned to Fleurie several times. It has only reinforced our firm conviction that Fleurie provides the finest dining experience in Charlottesville. The food is unsurpassed, and the solicitous and professional service by the entire team is unsurpassed. I could not recommend it more highly.
Amazing.. Had my graduation dinner here, and everything was perfect. Service was attentive and quick. Preparation demonstrated unbelievable attention to detail. Lobster bisque for my appetizer was perhaps the best I’ve ever had. Every dessert on the table was heavenly. Would definitely go back. Expensive, but well worth it for that special occasion or celebratory dinner.
VERY disappointing. My wife and I opted to go to Fleurie for her birthday dinner. Service was slow and inattentive. It was 45 minutes between our appetizer and main courses. Despite the waitstaff literally running around the restaurant at breakneck speed, once the entrees were served, we were unable to flag our server down to ask for salt, get a refill on our water, or get another glass of wine. While the food was good (not great) and beautifully presented, at $30 per entree, the service should be MUCH better.
