This is by far one of my favorite restaurants ever!! It is unique and delicious!! My favorite things are anything with their garlic aioli (especially the shrimp or the steak!) and the spinach salad with mango dressing. Always AMAZING. If you like sangria there is great as well but be careful it is potent!
Best in Cville!. My favorite place to take friends for a birthday celebration, and to show out of town guests that Cville knows about good food! Love the artichokes and anything they do with fish–
Many thanks. First, thanks to Mas for serving consistently awesome plates at reasonable prices year in and year out. Thanks to the talented chefs and friendly staff. Last but not least, thanks to the clueless reviewers who can’t appreciate what a gem this place is. Without your sophomoric reviews, the rest of us would have to wait even longer to get a table!
Snooty, indifferent service. Mediocre food. Small plates yes. Authentic tapas no.
This is some of the best food in town created with impeccable execution using quality ingredients that shine. Service is efficient, helpful and brisk. Highly reccomend for an early weeknight option, otherwise be prepared to wait.
Final Disappointment. I ate at MAS a couple of times several years ago and was unimpressed (to say the least) by the food. The thing that really turned me off, however, was the general attitude of the staff. I decided that my time is better spent elsewhere until last night when a couple of friends suggested I give it another try. I was hopeful that this experience would be better and although our server was professional and did a good job, I still can’t understand why so many people eat here. The staff still seems unhappy and you notice it, which kills the vibe. I think the prices are good for what you get as long as you do not expect anything approaching presentation, not even garnishes. The drinks were good, the wine surprisingly nice and well-presented, and our first couple of dishes were good. The lobster/potato salad was delightful. The duck empanada was incredible and was such a hit with our party that we ordered more of them. I really thought my past experiences must have been in my imagination until we got our empanadas and they were now filled with mushrooms instead of duck. Two people in our party love mushrooms so they ate and were happy. While there is nothing wrong with substituting, there is something unsavory about not being informed of the changes. Had we known we would have chosen different dishes. I realize that the server had no way of knowing what was inside the empanada and she informed us that the kitchen did not tell her of the change. In short, MAS is hit-or-miss and I am tired of leaving there feeling as disgruntled as the staff appears to be. This visit was not the worst but given how bad previous visits were I won’t bother to go back. There are so many truly good restaurants in this area about which I can rave and I’d rather do that.
My favorite. Superb food, great atmosphere, attentive and hard working staff that is on the move. It is my all time favorite in a town that has many fabulous restaurants!
