Looking for a late night meal, wandered into Maya’s with no expectations. As soon as I was in the door, I liked the vibe of the bar dining area on the first floor. The staff, food and drinks were very good. I recommend Maya.
Very Nice Meal. The staff was welcoming, attentive, friendly, knowledgable, and professional. The menu is interesting and varied, with something for everyone. Some of our items were excellent — the pimiento cheese balls, the trout stuffed with goat cheese. Some of the food was very good but somewhat flat; I would say underseasoned or just not as flavorful as they could have been — the shrimp and grits, and the duck with grapes. The biscuits were fantastic, flaky and tasty. They made me think of home, even though we never had them at home. We sat outside and it’s surprising how many loud vehicles there are in C’ville! Firetrucks went by! Overall we had a very good experience, we will return, and we may choose it for a special occasion.
Fabulous Food and Evening!. We held my sons rehearsal dinner at Maya restaurant in Charlottesville on July 27, 2012. We had a private room upstairs that held 50 people and we had 45 at the dinner. We worked with Peter and Brett on all the details and we can honestly say that Maya did not disappoint! When we arrived they had drinks and appetizers of a cheese platter and shrimp platter ready for us. This was our choice and they were fabulous!! We mingled with our guests and had so much fun. The staff was perfect, always making sure we had what we needed, they were super attentive. As the evening moved on after we were all seated, we were given one of two choices for plated appetizers. We had selected the crab cakes with red cabbage slaw and remoulade and the other choice was pimento cheese fritters with pepper jelly. My son and his fiance had eaten at Maya before and chose this restaurant for their rehearsal dinner. They absolutely loved the pimento cheese fritters and we asked Brett if we could make this one of the appetizers for our dinner. Since this was not one of their usual offerings, the chef was not real sure he could do it, but they were able to accommodate us. The fritters were amazing!!! For the second course we had three selections. The first being the beef tenderloin with a red wine reduction sauce accompanied with mashed potatoes and green beans. The second was scallops with cheese grits and collard greens. They also provided a vegetarian entre for those people that wanted it. My husband and I had the scallops and they were to die for. The collard greens were amazing with a hit of spiciness that really brightened them up. I could have eaten this dish all night it was that good! Finally we finished the evening with desserts either bourbon pecan pie with caramel sauce or warm chocolate cake with blueberry coulis. This is where my husband and I differed because we each had a different dessert. They were both delicious!!! We could not have had the rehearsal dinner at a better place. The staff at Maya was amazing. They went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. The service staff was spot on all evening and they did a tremendous job. They far exceeded our expectations and I want to give them a huge shout out. If you ever need to have a party for 50 of your friends or if you just want to go out for dinner, I highly recommend Maya. It was fabulous, not only the location, or the service staff, but especially the food!!!
Amazing food, great atmosphere. Good for a date night or a might out with the guys. Drinks are strong and waiters are courteous. Tuesdays are great for those seeking value, as they have $12 deals! Recommended to all
Always great. We’ve had pretty much everything here, so we tend to get the specials. Fried oysters for appetizer, duck breast with braised red cabbage, and pistachio cake for dessert. Inventive and tasty food, relaxing atmosphere.
I stopped into maya for dinner this week and was disappointed. My friend and I had the 3 course dinner and of the 6 selections I found one course to my liking. The pickle plate appetizer was good. The white bean pate resembled hummus and I will eat just about anything pickled. The monkfish was gross. It was so chewy and over cooked that I couldn’t eat it. The fried chicken was even worse! The chicken was dry and everything that had been fried, ie, the chicken and polenta cake tasted like Hardee’s gravy. I will probably not go back to this resturant. The drinks were good, and the staff was friendly however the food was of diner quality.
Excellent place for a date night. The atmosphere was great, really enjoyed the decor and lighting. Food was absolutely delicious, and our server was quite friendly and attentive. Would definitely go again!
