Used Grubhub to order food, delivery on a Tuesday at 5:30. Two dinners reasonably priced; sweet and sour and general tso chicken, took over an hour and a half to get delivered :/ Guy handed it over and ran to do another order, busy night. Np. Opened our order…no sweet and sour sauce with the sweet and sour meal!!! Called them up, said sorry but would take over an hour to drop off sauce…ugh. Long story short, went there myself (defeating the purpose of delivery) to get the sauce and never going back. The food was okay by the way, no complaints about that at least.

Some of the best chinese food ever. Overall Charlottesville is lacking in high quality, well prepared cuisine at a reasonable price but Ming Dynasty is exceptional. I’ll be back for sure. Now if I could only find a good Mexican place here. The search goes on

This place can definitely do well in China. SO GOOD, that I feel bad for the owner that he chooses to do it in Charlottesville, instead of NY, California, northern Virginia. Charlottesville does not have a big enough market that can appreciate his level of authenticity and culinary skill.my witness:ma po tofu: sure, every Chinese restaurant has this common dish, yet it is simply not easy to do it right. Best I’ve had in my life! Hard to believe it happens in a small American town, and not anywhere in China during my first 18 years of life there!spicy cold sliced beef: aroma of beef and garlic based condiments without being overpowered by spiciness, excellent with a light beer.salt and pepper short ribs: you will appreciate why meat on the bone is better, don’t be shy using your hands. crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside. zi ran eggplant: yes eggplant, dark purple eggplant full of antioxidants can indeed taste delicious. This is NOT a veggie dish that only those hippy vegans can enjoy, potato chip lovers will enjoy it too.twice cooked pork: yet another dish every Chinese restaurant offers, good things need not be complicated and simple things are not always easy to do correctly. Think pork fat is gross? This dish will make you love pork fat. No, it’s not saturated in fat, on the contrary, it’s dry and thin sliced pork without any hint of grease yet with full flavor.green pea sprouts: I have not met a single American who didn’t like it after he/she tried it. The sprouts remains crispy after the quick stir fry. Each sprout seems to be individually coated with thin layer of oil, no oil pool at the bottom of dish. The sprouts remain fresh tender green all the way.The owner cooks every dish himself, if every Chinese restaurant did the way he is doing, Chinese food would enjoy a much more elevated (and deserved) status today. I personally think too many Chinese immigrants did Chinese cuisine a disfavor, I guess making a living trumps everything.I admit Taste of China and Peter Chang’s have better locations and are more crowd appealing. Culinary skill and taste wise, I’d better let you be the judge. Don’t be discouraged by Ming Dynasty’s location, come inside and be pleasantly surprised, including service and price!

A unique opportunity. I only visited this restaurant because the place I really wanted to go had closed down since the last time I visited Charlottesville. So I chose Ming Dynasty at random and did my best to ignore the sketchy exterior. It’s much nicer on the inside, warm and colorful and relaxing. The menu was something of a shock, as it contained dozens of vegetarian dishes, including quite a few that utilized various mock meats. I wasn’t feeling quite valiant enough to order any of those, but everything I did sample (hearty and heavy old-fashioned egg rolls, vegetable dumplings, Szechuan vegetables) was flawless. I don’t know how soon I’ll be able to return, but I hope Ming Dynasty will still be there.
