  Wedding cake disaster!!! Called me 4 hours before the arranged pick-up time wanting to change half of my wedding cake. Wait, let me rephrase that, informed me they were going to change my wedding cake because they didn’t really give me any other options. They never made the sugar gum paste flowers that had been ordered and didn’t like the icing we had chosen for our cake. They blamed a girl who no longer worked there, but took absolutely NO responsibility for the fact that they were changing our wedding cake hours before it was to be completed. We ordered the cake 2-3 months in advance, this was not a last minute order. To make it worse, when we arrived the cake was not packaged in a manner acceptable for travel (we were driving to a remote location for a private ceremony). We had made it clear when we ordered the cake that we would be transporting it to a remote location. No apology was made when we picked up the cake and instead seemed offended when we were not giddy about appearance of the cake that no longer resembled the one we had originally ordered. The only upside was once you scraped off all the icing and removed the poisonous flowers they used, the actual cake (one of the few things that was what we had ordered) tasted pretty good.

  Great service and awesome cupcakes. The hours aren’t as long as I would like but the cupcakes are worth it. Definitely a Charlottesville favorite

  I have been going to Pearl’s Bake Shoppe for about a year and a half. In the beginning it was great and I specially enjoyed the vegan cupcakes. As Pearl’s became more successful the quality began dropping and more recently it is just plain old bad. Cupcakes are too sweet and grainy. In two occasions we got special order cakes. After being disappointed with the first one, we hoped the next time would be better. Alas, it was definitely way too expensive for the quality of cake we received. We complained about it and were told we would get a refund for the poor quality of decorations. During the conversation, we were also accused of posting a bad review (I guess there must be others who were unhappy with the service). I would have never expected this level of rudeness from a service business in a small town. For their excellent performance (!), here is our bad review that they wanted to accuse us of so bad… On a special note, if you want good vegan or gluten-free cupcakes Sweethaus down the block is the place to go!!!!!
