Stick with authentic choices. Very disappointing at first visit. After much coaxing went back recently and was pleasantly surprised. Excellent spareribs and an enormous spicy beef noodle soup dish. Will be back to continue to try the specials. Items from the standard menu were still a bit dull.

Hit and miss. Short: I don’t say this lightly, but I have had better food and service in a mall food court. My wife and her girlfriend went for lunch recently and the food and service were excellent. I had been wanting to go so my wife and I also went for a lunch. We ordered egg drop soup and cilantro fish rolls for appetizers. She had the General Tso’s chicken and I had the ribs special. The soup, fish rolls and her entree arrived together in about 3 minutes time. The soup and rolls were good, but the General Tso’s chicken was mall food court quality. It was bland and swimming in General Tso’s sauce. The rice followed about ten minutes later.I had the ribs special ($18) which arrived after another ten minutes. The ribs were grey and without flavor. Having cooked plenty of ribs, it was immediately obvious these ribs were boiled and covered in sauce. There was no rub and the glaze was too sugary to have been on while they were being prepared or it would have burned. The glaze was sickly sweet and I didn’t even bother to finish them. Finally, our server was refilling my Coke when the Coke syrup ran out. He dumped most of the soda and topped it off with Diet. He turned around, made eye contact with my wife who was watching the whole time and served it anyway. I would not go back on the off chance they had their act together.

Before you order Chinese food…. I have been reading the past reviews of this restaurant, and feel I must say something about criticizing a Chinese restaurant for doing what it should do – namely bringing the dishes successively rather than all at once. Chinese food is ALWAYS meant to be eaten family style, with the entire table sharing each dish. While you may think in terms of entrees for each person, that is not a Chinese meal. A good restaurant serves the meal in stages, with one or two dishes arriving at a time, then the next dish or set of dishes arriving 10 minutes later, and so on. I appreciate the way Peter Chang’s does not bring all the dishes at once. Please, if you are going to eat Chinese food cooked by someone who has knowledge and talent, then be prepared to enter into the spirit of the culture and the cuisine.

I must say that the negative reviews I have read describe very well my sense of the restaurant after my only visit. Expensive, in attentive staff and modest interior. The food quality was average and the place was dead by 8:30 on a Saturday. No thanks.

Worst dining in Cville. Just had worst dining experience EVER in Charlottesville. Food awful. Three surrounding tables seated after us all received food before we did. Entrees for 5 people at our table came in 3 batches separated by about 10 mins (really, a simple Lo Mein takes that long?). Some at table nearly finished eating before last person even served. Ridiculous. Loads of servers and busboys but they act like they’re in a diner. Dirty dishes stacked in plastic tubs right next to our table, and a vacuum cleaner (!) and extension cords and othe junk in plain site IN the dining room. Unbelievable. Don’t waste your time or money.
