Bland food and undercooked pizza. We went to Red Pump as we had heard good things about this new Italian style restaurant.Boy were week disappointed. Although service was good, the food was bad. Real bad. For an appetizer we had the carpacccio. This was really a radish salad. We had to search for the beef. It was so overdressed we couldn’t taste the meat when we did find it.We decided to try the pizzette. This was so bland we had it packed to go so we could fix it at home. Oh and it was undercooked the thin crust was chewy not crispy. We then tried the pasta. My wife had the raviolo. This was overseasoned. It was way to salty. I had the braised lamb pappadelle. This was also overseasoned, but not as bad as the raviolo. On the upside, the cocktails were well worth the cost. Just don’t eat anything here.
A Great Addition to the Downtown Area. Several of us have dined there a number of times and it has just recently opened. It is wonderful and offers a wide range of options from appetizers to accompany your drinks to the individual pizzas or pizzette. The menu then progresses to pastas and more serious entrees and they change it. A constantly evolving menu and it is, so far -all excellent.. Well at least as far as we have sampled it. Between us we have tried every section of the menu and look forward to trying more. Yes-it is true that some staff were nervous-well it just opened and the design of the place seems to mandate that it be accompanied by excellent service. It is beautiful. There is something to be said for a place where every aspect of the design was a conscious decision by someone that knew what they were doing. Every light bulb, every shelf, every decoration from the elegant bar to the hand dryers in the rest rooms are the result of efforts to make the space a beautiful one to dine in.
Liked it but…… We were excited to try Red Pump! We run an Inn and want to be able to recommend it to friends and guests. We ordered a pizzette and grouper in spring vegetables and squid ink reduction. Both were good but the wait was very long for the grouper, and the pizzette diner had already finished his entree and was eyeing up the grouper when it arrived! The prices for wine and cocktails are at the very top end of reasonable for the quality and size of pours. A $13 glass of wine needs to be really special to earn that price. The waitress was lovely, attentive and knowledgable. One of us was gluten-free, and this proved to be a little more challenging than expected because they had run out of the first choice entree and only a few items on the menu are actually gluten free. Our biggest problem was the deafening sound of the happy diners. A full restaurant is a good thing for management, but a conversation was almost impossible for two people sitting across a small table. This is a significant issue, and will affect our ability to recommend the restaurant. We are part of a dining group as well, and they have cancelled the reservations held for a future date at Red Pump based on the rumors of excessive noise. This decision was independent of our experience, so word is getting around. Dining outside is a good bet!
Great new option on the mall!. Stopped in the other night with a couple of friends. Had trouble deciding what to order- so many options sounded great- but we settled on the beet cured salmon as an appetizer, and shared the arugula pizza, the fusilli, and the halibut entrees between the three of us. Everything was amazing! Don’t forget to ask for the bread- it is amazing. Our only complaint was that the table was much too small for the three of us- more suited for a table of two. Can’t wait to return!
First Visit. I am not a fan of the downtown mall, but some of the restaurants are worth the trip. This is one of them. It is very beautiful inside, the food is wonderful. I agree it is a bit loud, but that goes with the territory . My only suggestion would be that the wait staff lighten up a bit. Very serious, a warm welcome goes a long way.
Disappointed. We dined at Red Pump last night and were underwhelmed by the experience. The flavor of the food was not bad, but the tortellini was not hot when it was brought to the table. Also, the size of the entrees were more tapa sized though the prices were not. Our server was not very attentive and I was bumped by several other waiters as they tried to squeeze behind my seat. The dining area looks very nice, but is kind of crowded. Also agree with the first reviewer in that the owners there seemed to take up room and make the staff nervous.
Look elsewhere. Very noisy, we waited 40 minutes for starters, food was very average, pizza was cold, salads undressed. A lot of manager/owners standing around watching a service disaster unfold as patrons complained. We won’t be going back.
