Delicious Vegan Options. Just had a wonderful dining experience at Royal Indian Restaurant. The ambiance, the food, the personalized service – all were very satisfying, and we were surprised there were so many vegan options. Unfortunately, there was no dessert option for vegans, but we were a bit too full anyway after almost finishing our two dinner entrees and devouring our delicious appetizers. While the seasoning of both of our seasonal vegetable entrees from the main menu was very nicely done, we do wish they had provided twice as many vegetables since neither included any significant source of plant protein and we like to eat nutritious meals when dining out. (We love the large Buddha’s Feast vegetarian entree served at PF Chang’s.) Next time, if I can’t get more vegetables in an entree, I will just order two of the same appetizer I had today – the Crushed Somosa topped with chickpeas, chopped fresh veggies, and a small amount of a very special tangy sauce. It was totally amazing and probably just as healthy overall as either entree.I’ll also definitely bring some of my own vegan almond cookies – or some coconut-based ice cream – and try to encourage them to offer something vegan for dessert in the future. They could make their own ice cream from coconut cream to serve customers or even just keep some from the grocery store in their freezer to have on hand for vegans. Anyone would love it, actually, not just vegans!Despite being a bit sparse on veggies in our vegetable entrees, we thoroughly enjoyed our first dinners at this very beautiful, relaxing, clean, friendly restaurant. You could not find better service anywhere.
Fantastic lunch. I do not typically enjoy buffets. However, the lunch buffet was great. Nice range of choices available. Today’s visit was my first since the restaurant opened, so I was eager to try it out. Great food and service. I will definitely be back!

Groups of people celebrating birthdays and gathering to catch up filled the restaurant. Service was good and they helped us order. Enjoyed it.
Nice. Neat clean atmosphere, excellent food. I had one piece of chicken, the rest from the veg section of the buffet – all quite tasty. Staff is friendly.
Always at least good; sometimes superb. I haven’t eaten dinner here, but I’ve had the buffet lunch dozens of times over the last three and a half years (since before they moved to the current location). At the old location especially (less so now), I used to notice a variation over time: One time the lunch items would be excellent, another time they’d be good, and yet another they’d be all right. I still notice inconsistency, but it’s tending to be excellent more often these days; today (7-5-13) was an example – it was probably the best meal I’ve had since moving to Virginia from California. As other reviewers have mentioned, the atmosphere is wonderful and the service is very good. The owners are friendly, gracious people. When I come to C’ville to shop and lunch is in my plans, it’s usually a toss-up between Royal Indian and Christian’s Pizza.
