A special find. This is a storefront in a strip mall and a little challenging to find – but worth any effort. We greatly enjoy middle eastern food and this was among the best we have ever enjoyed. Tabbouleh had a Turkish style, more wheat, tomato sauce less parsley, and was excellent. Kebabs were excellent. The star of our lunch was a perfectly spiced lentil soup.
Not so hot. If you like eating ordinary food in a freezing cold room under blinding fluorescent lights, you’ve found your place. While service was pleasant and the angry waiter we have read about was nowhere in sight, this was not a pleasant place to eat. It was so cold inside that we needed to wear our coats through the meal, which consisted of pretty mediocre approximations of Turkish food. I will say that the meat in the Iskender and Adana kebabs was well prepared, and the waiter friendly, but the food was not good enough to merit a return trip, and the ambience was really bad. If we hadn’t been meeting another couple for dinner, I actually would have walked out without going inside.
Best Kebab in Town. I thing Sultan Kebab is the best and only place to eat Turkish food in Charlottesville. Kebabs are delicious. Lentil soup, Baklava and Turkish coffee must to complete the meal in Sultan kebab. Friendly service.
Will not return. Excited about a new ethnic restaurant in town, especially a Turkish one. Have had great Turkish food in NoVA. Question whether the grape leaves, desserts and bread were homemade. When it’s homemade most places serve the whole round of bread, not here it is tiny pieces. The lamb was very small pieces. The taboulleh seemed to be made with couscous vs. bulgur. Agree with the person who said the waiter seemed angry. In all a poor experience. The kabob places in C’ville would go under if they had to compete with those in NoVA and DC!!
Tasty!. Ordered the Lamb Shish Kebab Pita — good portions, great flavor. The accompanying tabbouleh was so good..must be the pomegranate sauce. Reasonably priced, good change of pace. Service friendly and personable. Will definitely be returning.
I <3 Sultan Kebab. I go to Sultan Kebab almost every Sunday. Food is fantastic and extremely affordable – everything is under $10 and the portions are very generous. In addition to the food, Serhat and Deniz are two of the most personable guys I have ever met and really make you feel like you are entering their home and not just a random restaurant. Keep up the awesome job!!!!P.S. I have ordered the chicken kebab platter numerous times and have never complained about the quantity of chicken – in fact I think it is extremely generous for under $10.
I gave this restaurant a try. I was happy that a Turkish restaurant just opened and I couldn’t wait to try it unfortunatly the experience was average. my husband ordered a platter of chicken kebab… huge amount of rice and a tiny pieces of chicken, he was disappointed I took a chicken kebab sandwich. I have to admit that it was really tasty, this was the positive point there is also something wrong with the waiter, he barely smiled, he gaved us an angry face . this was really weird and made us feel uncomfortable I don’t know If I’ll go there again, unless they improve their customer service
