James Beard semi-finalist and a Charlottesville gem. The regular menu is great, but that’s just a tease. The chalkboard changes daily and features dozens of selections, most highlighting local seasonal ingredients. Watching the bartenders work on classic and original cocktails is experiencing art being made.
A Delightful Place. My wife and I visited The Alley Light for the first time last Saturday night. Our server Stephanie was both very nice and professional and helped us with cocktail suggestions as well as a bottle of Renato Ratti Nebbiolo that they had on special that evening, and it was excellent. My wife and I shared a bunch of small plates, including the goat cheese with melted leeks, the (fantastic!) mushroom crepe, a duck and spinach tart, and the pork canneloni. All were absolutely wonderful. If you are a party of 6-8, I would recommend trying the snag the leather chairs and couches. The place has a really great vibe, and I expect tham to only build on their early successes. Highly recommended!
Outstanding/Warm/Wonderful. Someone made a cozy warm friendly comfortable place hidden on a side street speakeasy style right in the middle of the downtown area. A full menu plus a black board with a dozen or more specials-so we tried a few dishes and then as much as we could. I am not a food critic or an expert-just perhaps someone with too many opinions-But try the mushroom crepe or the pork cannelloni or the beef tartare and they have this shrimp salad in-I think grapefruit mayonnaise along with a pile of marinated shredded carrots and some great bread-not sure why but the combination was amazing as is the wine list and the bar and the service-at least it was for us. .Already been back and plan more
Surpris! Surprise! Wonderful and friendly new speakeasy hidden on a Second Street back alley. Gourmet French tapas style dining. Still hungry this morning… but it is a great new place that adds much needed diversity and variety to the already bursting restaurant scene in Charlottesville. Terrific + fresh high-end cocktails. Delicious (but small portion) innovative food. Stunning old-fashioned atmosphere in a beautifully renovated hidden space!
