Underwhelmed. Twice I have been to The Local. Twice I really wanted to love this place. I ordered food with descriptions that sounded so delicious. The food arrived, it looked delicious. But in all honesty, the food was lacking in flavor. The tuna special that I had ($25) was described as chili rubbed, and I did not detect any chili flavor. The rice that the tuna was served over was totally flavorless. It’s just hard to believe that a restaurant can demand reservations, have a very large local following and serve food that is so bland. Not sure what the answer is but it might be to add a touch of salt and pepper.I won’t be back. There are too many other great choices in this town.

Having lived away from Charlottesville since I was a young teenager, this was a new one for me. I love that not just the food is local – the bar, the chairs (Clores!), the art… Great ambiance and great food. It seemed a bit expensive to me, but I’d say it’s pretty standard for Charlottesville. I loved the stuffed local squash and also the goat cheese cake (a new one for me!) with margarita flavor and candied lime pieces. We got there very early and it was nice and quiet, but after a couple of hours it was way too loud to carry on an easy conversation. Our server (Bonnie) was very good, attentive but not pushy. I would definitely go back here!
Evan B. We must’ve hit a little bit of on off night for them. They were booked solid and may have been understaffed since they had a large party next door to take care of. When we were finally able to order they had run out of what I wanted to order. The food was prepared very well, the atmosphere was nice, except for the fact that we were seated upstairs by a wait station and the floor shook terribly every time a server walked by and that was a little annoying. While the service was slow, it was pleasant and courteous. I would definetly give them another chance based on the chefs ability.
I was very disappointed with this recommendation. Over priced for the quantity and quality of food. The salads were very good. The pasta I ordered was very bland. It’s like they forgot to season it. The worst part of the whole experience was our waiter. He was very abrupt and rude. Like we were a bother.
I’ve been there 3 times. Save your money there are far bettter (and better priced) options in Cville.
Great food with local sourcing and a good wine beer list. I definately reccommend reservations!
