I’m honestly not a fan off eating an egg on my burger, but I had to try their most popular menu item, the GUS burger. And boy was it delicious! The patties are small and nothing special, but the preparation of this burger makes it great.
It is truly a greasy spoon diner, but have to have a GUS burger, it’s a UVA tradition.
The famous White Spot burger took me by surprise. I’ve had good burgers with an egg on top, and figured it couldn’t be much different. The way they fix it is so simple but so delicious. I don’t know what it is, but that simple little White Spot burger is a darn good burger!
The Best Burgers in the South. The White Spot is probably most famous for their Gus Burger, a hamburger with a fried egg on it – but they also serve the Double Gus, and the Motor Burger – a double Gus with ham. You will also find a wide variety of subs and sandwiches, Gyro’s and other Greek fare, and plenty of breakfast items. The kids always love the hotdogs and for dessert – the Grills – two Krispy Kreme doughnuts, fried on the griddle in butter, and topped with vanilla ice cream – to die for! While you might find a fancier meal in Charlottesville, you won’t find a better one – that is for sure.Grits and Such . . . A Southern Food Odyssey
Best on the way home after the bars snack ever. I lived in LA for 4 years and just moved back to Charlottesville. Even though I had In-N-Out, I missed the gus burger SO much. Four years of trying to order a fried egg on a burger the way they do it at White Spot has just been one disappointment after another in LA… and there are good places to eat in LA.Nothing beats a Gus Burger as the perfect late night snack after a few beers and a game of shuffleboard at Boylan. They’re gyros are also really good… Prob not the most popular thing on the menu since most always its Gus Burger one after another being ordered, but I love me a good gyro and they’ve got a good one. Extra tzatziki sauce. yum yum!
Greasy Spoon. This place is a UVA tradition. It’s sort of a novelty but I buy in to it. The whitespot is greasy and its messy but it fits the bill for those late night affairs. Make sure you get a Gus Burger with a Grillswith.
