Love, love, love this place! I’m from Jacksonville, FL & love me some Mexican food & Margaritas! I’ve been to Abuelo’s twice in the last month & their food, service & quality are top notch. My favorite is their signature drink made with frozen sangria swirled with frozen margarita. This is definitely my go-to fav Mexican place in Chesapeake !!
Extremely Slow Service. Went to Abuelo’s for lunch today. I wasn’t in a hurry at all because I had an hour to kill during my work lunch. That being said, I had to wait 15 minutes before anyone came to take a drink order/check on me. After the waiter finally came, I gave him my food and drink order. I waited another 10 minutes and never got my water or chips. I stood up and walked my butt out the door and I will never go back. I am sick and tired of poor service. Abuelo’s lost my business for good.
Disappointing and Overpriced!. First of all, this place advertises that if you sign up for their email club you should receive a coupon for a free appetizer via email. Well, I signed up and did I receive my coupon? NO! We decided to go anyway since I had a giftcard and figured we had nothing to lose. I SO regret the decision to go. Inside it was noisy, crowded, and we waited 45 minutes to get a seat. The food was expensive (hubby’s salmon cost $17!!). I informed the waitress that I had tried to sign up for the email club and did not receive my coupon. There was little she could do about it and gave me a form to fill out to receive my coupon. I have yet to receive anything .The portions were relatively small for the price. I do not plan to return! We walked in at 7 and did not leave till 9. We didn’t plan to spend more than an hour there!
The food was over priced and over cooked. My daughter and I stop for a bit to eat and was very disappointed. The food wasn’t seasoned and didn’t have any flavor. Won’t be going back.
Food is good. Service is terrible. Say and waited 25 minutes to be seated despite over a dozen tables being empty in restaurant.
I understand now why there are so many complaints about the service… We got there at 2:50 on a Friday and sat in the bar area to get a beer or two. We discussed with the bartender about happy hour and the drink specials that started at 3 so we waited to put our drink order in… The mojito wasn’t good so we decided to pay up and when we got the bill we were charged full price? When we asked her about this she said it was a minute before three do she couldn’t discount them!! I don’t care about the money the point is she didn’t tell us it 2:59 on her computer and wait to ring is in which would benefit the customer!! Never again
Happy Hour Fiasco. This evening, my wife and I thought that we would enjoy some of the Tex-Mex that Abuelo’s offers. However, after we were seated in the main dining room we asked about their advertised Happy Hour. We were informed that Happy Hour can only be enjoyed in the bar area. WTF??? Wait a minute, why would I want to change my nice serene location in order to seat in a noisy and rather stuffed bar area? I was told that’s the policy. I know it’s not a state law. Well, I hate to tell you Abuelo’s, but I promptly left and found myself another Mexican Restaurant nearby. You have lost yourself some good customers. You need to change your Happy Hour Policy.
