Horrible manager. The sushi was good, but they messed up the order and charged us for something we didn’t get or order. Then served our sushi to a friend at our table and we got his. Manager blamed waitress. The manager didn’t label them, and when you cover different types of sushi in the same crumbly topping how is anyone supposed to tell what it is? Short of eating it. Then the drinks came flat. It took forever to get our hibachi food. Not going back, even if meal was free! I don’t appreciate being yelled at like I’m a criminal, when your the ones trying to charge for something not ordered or eaten! We spent around $145 for 2 people! That’s not including our friends meal and sushi! We deserve better service then that!
Love this place. I’ve only eaten dinner here, but I’ve been about 6 times and have ordered a variety of things and I’m never ever disappointed. The portion sizes (and number of courses) are huge. The personality of the chef is obviously not going to be 100% consistent, but the food is always up to par and I never leave without feeling like I got my money’s worth. Went this past Sunday and the food and service were PERFECT. Booked our rehearsal dinner here recently and am absolutely looking forward to it.
2 visits….still not sure. My first experience with Kabuki was in a large banquet group and I will say that it wasn’t bad at all. (I’m not a big fan of chaos.) While the food was shy of stellar, the chef was entertaining and used the appropriate level of humor for the high school aged crowd. The wait staff did a fine job of being accurate with our orders and keeping our glasses full. My most recent visit to Kabuki yielded the same good but not great food, pleasantly entertaining chef and a waitress who was accurate on our orders and kept our glasses full…in other words worthy of 15% but not quite 20%. All in all, I hate to say, Kabuki for me is mediocre. I will say I was pleased with the quality of the foods prepared. The meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables and sushi all looked and tasted fresh but the seasoning of the hibachi foods was lack lustre. It just didn’t wow me. I am typically a value diner and I think the thorn stuck in my paw about Kabuki is just that….value. The prices are right in line with other hibachi style restaurants in the area but they sneak in smaller charges that really poke you in the eye when you get the bill. (They are displayed on the menu if you read it carefully.) Each diner that asked for fried rice was charged an additional $2 and our party was charged $6 for the staff to bring my daughter an ordinary slice of cake and sing happy birthday with a gong. Again it was entertaining but $6? Can you skip the cake and just sing for free? Honestly the staff looked as though they would rather have been getting a root canal than singing which made the $6 charge even harder to swallow. Kabuki’s location is convenient to where we live but I really think I’d rather drive to Hopewell and visit Kan Pai. I don’t hate Kabuki, I just feel that maybe the owners or management need to consider that just down the street is Hibachi Ichiban (no entertainment but good hibachi food for half the price) and Kan Pai near Fort Lee if diners really want great food and the show. Neither of these establishments charge $2 for fried rice or $6 for a bad gong show version of happy birthday. All in all I don’t discourage anyone from trying Kabuki; I just don’t think anyone would ever be over the moon when they leave.
VERY Disappointing!. Have visited this restraunt dozens of times. Great food, always take family and guests here to eat. Went to celebrate husbands birthday, ordered a drink, the coke was flat, told the waitress 2 times, the 2nd time I handed her my glass, she came back with my nearly full glass just as it was, telling me the Manager said the soda was NOT flat and he was NOT going to make me another. The service we got after this incident was horrible, they left the bowls from the soup and the salad sitting on our table, didn’t bother to clear them away before the main course. Then when our Chef arrived he commented on how I had said the soda was flat. Additionally, I had paid extra for the Birthday package and only the waitress and 1 busboy came to the table to sing Happy Birthday. VERY Poor and RUDE management, terrible service to treat a customer this way. Such good food, it is really disappointing to have had this experience.
Beware of this crooked place. Wife and I went here about a year ago and had a small lunch. I wasn’t particularly hungry that day and got one sushi roll. My wife got chicken terriyaki. The waitress asked us (since I’m a big guy) if I’d like an extra plate to share what my wife was having (since it was big enough). We said sure and went about our meal. The food was average (but all Asian food is basically bought from the same vendor, so why would it be any better?)But here’s the kicker, when the bill came, they CHARGED US $6 FOR AN EXTRA PLATE FEE! WTF?! They didn’t make any mention of this, those slippery snakes-in-grass! And the worst part was, I did leave them a crappy tip, but knew it didn’t matter. All workers who were there were probably from the same family and all profitted on whatever they sold (tips wouldn’t have mattered anyway then). Would never go back again.
Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad. My family and I had a horrible time at Kabuki. Our servers were wonderful, but the cook was very strange and inappropriate and propositioned my mother-in-law. The food was expensive for a small portion and wasn’t good. We called the manager over and he proceeded to yell at us and was very rude. All-and-All it was a memorable night – but not for the right reasons. I would suggest going down the block to Antonio’s — love that place!!
BAD CHOICE – Pricey, Rude MGR, No Refunds. I haven’t been to the restaurant in a year, and was hoping that it was the same great food as before. I was SO WRONG! I ordered take out and the portion size for the price of the dinner wasn’t was I expected. Plus, the salad they provided was yellow and they forgot to add the extra vegetables I asked, and my soup. The food was cold to the touch. When I brought this up to the manager he didn’t do anything to address my concerns. At that point I asked for a refund and he flat out refused! He said they can’t do refunds. Are you kidding no refunds! I wasn’t going to argue. Now, I am left with no dinner and a charge on my credit card that I have to get cleared from my credit card. I will NEVER in my life go back to that place. Trust me if you want good Japanese food that is worth paying, good service, and to know that your food requests would be honored go to another place, this one sucks.
