In My All-Time Top 10 Meals. What a great surprise – from the atmosphere, to the service and especially to the food. Small menu which I prefer – had two appetizers; the chicken wings (done differently and maybe the best ever); and french fries with a sausage gravy (oh, so good). The entree’s were equally good — even the double cheeseburger was ridiculously tasty. Service was top notch and the drinks were real – not measured!!!
Great dinner. My date and I came here for restaurant week. We loved the dining room, and atmosphere and definitely want to come back and sit at the bar. I ordered the: Roasted pork belly, apple and fennel slaw, toasted peanuts, curried yogurt; Roasted flank steak, jerk spiced baby sweet potatoes, avocado yogurt, pickled onion; Foie gras pound cake, caramel ice cream. Everything came out amazing, it was cooked to expectation and very flavorful. My date ordered: Fried clam strips, Alabama white sauce, our hot sauce; Fried chicken thigh over buttermilk mashed potatoes with sausage gravy, and peanut butter pie. I tasted his and thought it was the best fried chicken, the flavors were amazing. If they have that on the menu get it- we saw some friends dining they got the scallops and said they were perfect. Doesn’t seem like you can go wrong here.
Raw Food. Bad enough reservation late seating pork chop dinner came out raw, sent back and came out still raw. Also while this going on table next to us had same problem.
Generally disappointing. Four of us dined for a friend’s birthday. Cocktails were delicious. Wine list was adequate and affordable. First course of pimento cheese with chips was fine. We also ordered a second item (sheep’s head tourine) but our waiter forgot it and it came late in the meal. It was good, nevertheless. The mussels appetizer was amazing and by far the best thing we had. Two diners’ entrees (scallops and trout) were deemed delicious. Two diners’ entrees (burger and pork chop) were disappointing. The burger tasted like something from a Burger King drive through–overly charred and smothered in cheddar cheese. It was served well done, because no other option was offered. The pork chop was raw in the middle and the entire dish was lukewarm.. The service was awkward and uncomfortable. The server seemed upset and offered no guidance to the menu. He was efficient, but not personable and totally absent minded. Our desserts were good, but hardly made up for the shortcomings of the rest of the meal. Dinner for four was over $200 including tip. After weighing the experience of all four diners, the experience was not commensurate with the price. The only way we would return is at the invitation of others who were picking up the tab. I work in the service industry and my partner and I dine out frequently in some of Richmond’s better restaurants. We were eager to try The Roosevelt for our friend’s birthday. Now we are sorry we did.
Really outstanding. We sat at the bar, and the bar staff was very friendly. Both our meals were great, and the cocktails were creative and good.
