The best fast food in the country. On a recent trip to southern California I walked past Ona BBQ and something told me I had to try it. I stopped and got a mini-meal which was anything but mini. It must have weighed 2 pounds or more. BBQ chicken salad and rice and mac and cheese. I was on my way to the airport and put a piece of chicken in my mouth whenever I stopped at a light. I was sooooooooo fantastic. I will never forget it. NOthing like it in Kansas City.
Great family owned restaurant.. We’ve been following the family who owns Ono for years. Lena is such a lovely person, and she and her family always makes you feel at home. The food is great – this isn’t buffet style food. Everything is fresh, cooked to order, and delicious. If there’s something that you’re craving that’s not on the menu just ask – many times they are able to make something for you. The chicken and asparagus is my favorite, I always ask for it spicy and it’s always perfect. Great place!
The BBQ chicken and Bourbon chicken are really good. The Bourbon chicken has a taste similar to the BBQ and it comes sliced and with grilled onions so it is my favorite. I do not like the beef dishes because the meat is just too tough for me. Someone told us they had the beef with broccoli and liked it so I gave the meat another try and went with the Mongolian Beef since it came with grilled onions. One bite and I regretted it. At about $9, the portions are big and it is way more than one meal. The taste of the Mongolian beef here is not something I’d get again but added with chewiness of the meat, I’ve been forcing myself to finish it because I hate to throw away food and money…but each time I ate it, it crossed my mind. The Mac salad helped, thankfully, as this stuff is just the way I like it. A side order was about $4 for a small container since it didn’t come with the Chinese dishes. I’ll go back since the chicken dishes I had haven’t been found anywhere else and it is a friendly family establishment. So grateful to have found a taste of Hawaii.
Great food.. Im from California which has tons of competing authentic Hawaiian bbq restaurants. This places is by far the best I’ve found on the East Coast. Good costumer service and the prices are competitive. The Chinese they have here is very average as is most of the areas food.
A nice lunch. Had the Hawaiian BBQ platter, it was ok, nothing to special but good. Really enjoyed the spam musubi which I l hadn’t had since I was in Hawaii. Will be back to try other menu items.
Lived in Hawaii a long time and this was as good or better than anything Hawaiian I had there. We had the BBQ mixed plate and the loco moco, everything was great especially the BBQ chicken and Mac salad. Friendly and family run , we will be back.
