As authentic as it gets…. I recently arrived in Culpeper and I thought that I would start hitting up a different restaurant every few days in order to get more acquainted with the area. So, I went to El Nopal, it was around 5pm. The place was empty except for two waitresses in the corner. I noticed that there was a buffet, mistake number 1. Everything on it was leftover from the lunch crowd, most of it was dried out and it didn’t stick to the Mexican theme (chicken wings, chicken nuggets and french fries). I decided to try it by partaking in the chicken wings, dried chips and what seemed like day old quesadillas. Perhaps the food was a little too authentic for me. Regardless, I was upset with the selection and decide to order an entree as well. It was much better but their attempt at tacos and enchiladas continued to disappoint. Perhaps my flavor for Mexican remains with the more Americanized tacos and enchiladas. On a positive note, I was able to catch up on my Mexican telenovelas from 1985 while Univision played above my head.
