Needs to work out the kinks. Grade: Incomplete29 Diner has been open for only a short while and, unfortunately, hasn’t yet found its stride. It is clear that a lot of thought has gone into decor, cleaning, and some new furniture but it’s not clear that the same consideration went into the food and the kitchen. We have been in twice, the first time in the early evening for dinner. We both ordered cheeseburgers which weren’t bad. Bakery buns and fresh toppings were a nice touch, although the beef patty was a bit small and was got a little lost. And considering that there were only a few patrons, it took a bit longer than we expected.Breakfast this morning was a train wreck. Nobody seemed to be in charge in the front and nobody seemed to be in charge in the kitchen. There was no one designated to seat people – or direct people to seat themselves. Wait staff fumbled through their tasks. Some orders were brought out piecemeal. The people behind us waited 15 minutes to get menus and water. The people next to us arrived after we did, and they finished their food and paid before we got our meals. From the time we arrived, it took 45 minutes to get our breakfast. The menu included a truly bizarre choice in the form of a chicken-fried steak burger, which included the steak, sausage gravy, and a burger patty on a bun with fries (?!?). It was breakfast time so my wife asked for scrambled eggs, the steak and gravy, no burger or bun, and a biscuit instead of the fries. I’d gotten the combo with a biscuit & gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, and potatoes. What eventually came out was wrong. From looking at the two dishes, it was clear that mine had been completed long before my wife’s was started, as my gravy was skinned-over, darker, and lukewarm. Of the remaining barely-warm items, the sausage was a little too pink on the inside, the eggs were greasy, and there were no potatoes. My wife’s had the steak with gravy with no bun, as well as the burger patty and fries which were she asked not to have. What she did ask for, the biscuit and the scrambled eggs, were not included. I told our waitress of the problems with my wife’s order and asked her to adjust the bill, and she took off a pittance. When I was able to tell her about the problem with my food, she took off an additional 12 CENTS. In the end, after the adjustments for food from which we only took a couple of bites, I still paid over $20.Normally, a restaurant like this would have received a D- for a grade, but I won’t do that to them since they just opened. I can’t say that I’ll be back to see if they get their act together, but I truly hope they do so soon for the sake of the business.
A good stop on the way back from a late night out. Reasonably priced, I recommend the hash. I guess they try to make it as authentic as possible by only accepting cash, how 1950’s of them.
Best breakfast ever; after owing cars all night we henrys drivers would stop by, i haven’t been in years ,but plan to go this week,!
This is a real old diner. If you are a diner enthusiast their website has lots of old pictures and history. While it is not as shiny as the shiny diners we often see today I found it to be clean and well maintained. There were very few customers when I was there but I understand they can get pretty busy on the weekends. The food was just not good. I got the recommended special Beef and Macaroni, an unusual menu item. It was not special. It was a plateful of food that kids might make in learning to cook or someone on a tight budget would fix out of a box. The side of mashed potatoes was also not very good. Diner food is supposed to be good, cheap, and plentiful. This one did not score high and any category.
Hands down the worst diner i have ever eaten at. My steak was way undercooked, the potatoes were horrible, the biscuits and gravy had NO flavor. The place didn’t look very clean and the prices were over the top for what we got. This place calls itself a historical landmark, I’d say its more of a skidmark. Pass up on this place, you won’t regret it.
Skip it. If you are going here, your probably looking for well-made, interesting and inexpensive food. Well, you’re not going to find it. The Hash is out of a can, the specials aren’t special, as they are neither inexpensive nor creative. Asked for poached eggs, well done, they returned w/ runny whites in a bowl full of milky water…yuk! I pointed them out and they took it back, returning w/ dry scrambled eggs. Its old, but other than that – there is notthing unique about it. I seek out diners, and I’d have preferred Denny’s. That’s saying something.
Just OK. Nice old diner, but the food is only so-so and it’s not exactly dirt-cheap.
