Delicious king crabs! We were a party of 12. Food and service were pretty good!

Probably should have gotten the crabs. I liked the place but not the food and not the service. The place is a big room with lots of tables and an old casual seafood restaurant feel, likely triggered by the smell when you walk in the door. As mentioned in other reviews, there is brown paper on the tables and drinks come in plastic cups. Advertising signs adorn the walls. I liked the ambience, mallet pounding and all, and liked that it is a local place with history. Service was not very good. There appeared to be one guy handling all the tables. He did ok considering, but for what it cost we deserved better. As for the food, I got a platter of fried fish, fried scallops, and fried clam strips. Scallops were ok but oily, fish was thin and very oily, and the clam strips just ok for clam strips. Fries were good and plentiful. Id rate the platter as below average with a pretty steep price. No one at my table much liked their various dinners, but then again none of us got the all you can eat crabs for $39. After seeing all the positive votes and reviews I hesitate voting I did not like it and will instead blame my disappointment on ordering the wrong thing.

The quintessential crab house. We’ve been going since it was housed in a Quonset hut down the road a piece. Walls covered with advertisements, the clamor of pounding mallets, well cooked/seasoned crabs …. basically just a place for serious crab eaters. Other stuff on the menu, but that’s not what you go there for. We love it.

Brings the Chesapeake to Fairfax. Grade: BIf I can’t make it to the bay, this place delivers what I need to calm my fix for steamed crabs. Tasty–and close!

The specialty here is the Maryland crab, although you can get decent snow crab legs. Cans of cheap beer, over boiled corn on the cob, what else would you order from here anyway? Pell’s is a one-hit wonder, excellent for rolling up the sleeves and pigging out.

A+ Food; A+ Owner. I have eaten at Captain Pell’s many times and let me tell you, if you are hungry and want some crab, Captain Pell’s is the way to go! Now, it’s not fine dining, but it’s great dining. You’re chairs might not match and you might have plastic cups, and lets not forget the paper on you’re table, but yum! Captain Pell’s is magnificant! The owner, Rick Pell, is a really great man! Can’t do much better than Captain Pell’s and the Captain, himself!

A Crab Shack. Captain Pell’s is high quality seafood at a great price. Go here for the crab and expect a crab shack. This is a no frills restaurant complete with plastic cups and kraft paper table clothes. Eating with your hands and making a mess is par for the course. My husband really loved this place. He especially liked the coleslaw and fresh blue crabs. He said if he went back he would avoid the fried options and stick to raw oysters and a half dozen medium, fresh caught blue crab. Everything was great, including the southern service. We’ll go back for take away or dine in.
