When I first went to this place I had mixed feelings. The environment felt good, but the vibe of the people seemed off. I requested a table outside and you know what, this is a nice little gem and I wish I lived closer. I ordered the prime rib because that is what I read about. Everyone raves about the prime rib. I’ll be honest, I thought it was good, but not great. It was not what it was hyped up to be anyway. Now the short ribs on the other hand… Damn! That is a bowl of heaven. I will be getting that next time I go because that is my taste in a nutshell! They were also serving the crab legs so of course had to get some. I found them to be a little too fishy in flavor. Crab legs normally aren’t that fishy but I have no idea what kind they were serving. They were also sweet. That is just my personal taste and I am real picky about fish because I hate it. I like lobster tail, crab legs, and shrimp. Oh, I also do sushi on occasion but I really dislike fish so the crab legs would probably be delicious to everyone else. The service was friendly. The manager was checking on the tables to make sure the customers were happy. They had a good selection of beer (Guinness yay). I dig this place. Good food, good atmosphere, good service.

On a whim we tried this place, I must say it had the makings of a great place but it fell short. The food was almost good, the drinks were almost made right….. They just didn’t deliver it for me, our waitress was VERY VERY friendly and checked on us to the point of annoying. I felt the prices at dinner were a little high for the amount of food that was on the plate and I left hungry never a good sign. I would not go back.

Local Charm Doesn’t Deliver.. This place always seems busy and I had to discover what the draw was. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere and a cozy feel for such a large building, but just didn’t deliver on the food. We ordered some salads and soups, and two in my party ordered the nightly special, a grilled grouper with pesto. The soups and salads came out and were ok. My Caesar was average and the seafood bisque the other two in the party ordered tasted canned and not house made. Also after we had finished our apps, our server informed us that they were out of the grouper. An honest mistake yes, but I found it strange that it took all the way until our apps were finished to tell us. We switched to a crabcake dinner and a stuffed trout. The crabcakes had a lot of fresh crab meat in them, but the flavor was very bland. Also the paltry amount of french fries that came with them were limp and greasy. The stuffed trout was basically a piece of fish with a crabcake on top, and my companion was overall unimpressed. The one bright note, was my other companion thought her crab legs were very fresh tasting and flavorful. However, this is probably not enough to draw us back for another visit.

Great Food + Great Service + Great Company = Great Night at Skidoo’s. There I was out of town on a Friday night and my friends suggested that we go to PJ Skidoos’s, a local place, for dinner. What a great place for a great meal!First, the staff. Whether it was the bar staff or the wait staff, the servers were absolutely the best! Attentive without being intrusive, made great suggestions on what to order. While they are young, you can tell that this professional wait staff is properly trained and managed. (Thanks Azarette, Page and Kimmy).Second, what we were served. Skidoo’s has a simple straightforward menu but on a Friday after a long week and 35 degrees outside (remember, I am from South Florida!), simple is good.Full bar with a wide range of beers on tap (Smithwicks!!) will provide anyone with their choice beverage. For apps, we had fried zucchini, wings and calamari. The zucchini are a little different as they are wedges that are fried with a tasty coating, served with a side of ranch. Wings were meaty, not too hot, not too mild and no vinegary taste. The calamari was perfect and not overdone. You can see that Skidoo’s pays attention to the apps. When we talked to our friends, they suggested what Skidoo’s is known for: Prime Rib. Medium rare and finished off on the grill. Served with a little au jus and horseradish on the side (didn’t even have to ask!). Baked potato and a nice little salad on the side. The managers stopped by the table several times through the meal to make sure everything was just so. (Thanks Taki and Demitrio).Skidoo’s has a bustling bar business and a little later (9-ish), the crowd gets a little younger, though not too young. It was easy to see why my friends like Skidoo’s: Great food, great service, reasonable prices.

My Experience. The food and specials are good, but don’t go here if you want to cheer for your team. The wait staff is quick to ask individuals to calm down while cheering for a team. This would be okay if they didn’t push themselves as a place to watch games.
