The service was mediocre at best. It was over priced for what we received. The fish still had the skin on it, and the sandwich was literally just fish and bread. Save your money and eat at home or try somewhere else.

The Happy Clam Made Us Happy!. It’s not much to look at and not exactly the decor you think of when you think of a seafood restaurant, but for lunch, this place has po’ boys that leave other sandwiches calling themselves po’boys in the dust. Their choices of these seafood sandwiches rivals some of the more well known seafood establishments, but this place isn’t a chain by any means and the fish counter at the front entrance makes you remember what got this place here, the fishermen who toil and trouble over their catches day in and day out. The shrimp was lightly fried and plentiful on the sandwich, and the bread was crusty and a perfect compliment to the fixings. The crab cakes were fresh and meaty and stood alone strongly. With a choice of hushpuppies, fries, cole slaw and potato salad (no big shakes on the sides except for the hush puppies), you get plenty to eat, and all of the sandwiches hover around 10 bucks, a bargain considering the quality and abundance of food that you receive. Dinner is obviously more expensive, but still seems reasonable for what you get. I think the only thing we wished for were more (and more exciting) side choices and a bit more attention during our meal from the young and text-happy wait staff. We’ll be back for sure as Fredericksburg is a town teeming with these non-chain nuggets that are fun and homey and worth keeping in business. The Happy Clam made us happy!
