So.. I dont usually leave reviews , good or bad, but I feel I need to to save people from wasting their time and money. I went for Fathers Day and ordered steak, fish and lobster tail, plus kids chicken tenders and fries. The steak and lobster tail were terrible. The fish was ok, so my daughter says, and the chicken tenders were actually good. The bread was nice and the salads were cheap and pretty skimpy even for a house salad. Ive had better at a church charity benefit. Lousy iceber lettuce, a few cucumber slices and two cherry tomatoes. Two choices of salad dressing, raspberry vinaigrette or oil and vinegar. The oil and vinegar come in cheap pizza saloon shakers and not good quality balsamic either. The sides were fries, cream spinach, or baked potatoe. We got each and all were sub-par. Fries were mealy, baked potato seemed microwaved and creamed spinach was ok but nothing special. Then they bring out sour cream for potatoes in a cheap plastic cup. I mean for the price, come on, make more of an effort, maybe use a dish. The steak had no flavor and was a bit fatty. The lobster tail had no flavor, was tough, and even the butter couldnt help it be palatable. I was told that they use the best cuts of meat so they dont season it. Ummm, ok, Ive had better cuts from Wegmans and still marinade my meat and it tastes 1000 times better on my own grill. So the waitress asked how everything was and I was honest and said I was disappointed. They took off the steak and lobster tail from the bill, which I appreciated since we didnt eat but a few bites and sent back the rest. Then I proceeded to pay $116 for one fish, two chicken tenders, 3 measley salads, two Shirley temples, one spinach side and one baked potatoe. I mean really.. $18 each for kids meal chicken tenders and fries!? And I had to go home and eat just to fill up. I devoured the frozen burritos since they were a treat compared to what I just encountered. I dont know if this place was once really good or what not but it has definitely past its prime and there are so many other places better that Ive eaten at; Sedona, Capital Ale House, Feriehnheit, Baverien, etc. Do not waste your time or money. So over priced for such poor quality. I honestly wish I stayed in and ordered Chinese take-out. Im so mad I didnt. And my daughter told me to before we went too. Listen to your kids folks. Oh but the atmosphere was nice and it feels all fancy and what not. But.. they play hit radio.. even my kids said maybe they should pipe in piano music or classical. Even they found that to be amiss. Wel, I tried to be as honest as possible. Good luck if you go.
Not impressed. Usually for special dinners, my wife and I go down to Richmond and eat at Buckheads Chophouse. However, as we live in the Fredericksburg area, we thought we would try Olde Towne. As it has been in business a long time, we thought that they would be pretty good. We were somewhat mistaken. Despite prices that compare with other fine dining establishments I’ve been to, the atmosphere and food did not live up to the price. The decor is very dated and shows some deferred maintenance. Our waiter was very attentive, which was a plus. The food – very uninspiring. They seem to confuse quantity with quality. I would much rather have a small meal prepared impeccably than a large meal of mediocre quality. As it was our Anniversary, they very thoughtfully gave us a complimentary dessert. The dessert was very good, but as someone has already remarked, why is it that the dessert is the best thing about the meal at Olde Towne? Our verdict is that next time, we’ll just bite the bullet and drive down to Richmond for a memorable meal.
