We have eaten here several times over the past year and have always enjoyed the food. This recent visit was no different. Unfortunately though, I don’t think we will be back, and that is disappointing. This was a busy Friday night before Christmas so it was expected that the food may take a while to get to the table. It took about 45 minutes from the time we ordered until our hibachi order arrived at our table. Totally understandable and no big deal! What was a big deal is that I noticed another guest handling the plates of food set aside for our orders, at least twice! We were sitting in the sushi bar area while our food was being prepared at the hibachi table along with other guests’ food. When the waitress brought our food to the table, I asked if those plates were from the table next the gentleman in the green shirt and pointed in his direction. She said yes. I then had to tell her that I saw that guest pick up one of our plates at least twice and sit it down in front of him. I couldn’t see if he stuck his fork or anything in the food due to the partially obscured view but he did handle our food which was clearly not his!I don’t like to send food back but I felt I had to. I apologized to the waitress and asked if they would re-cook our order since a stranger that was not a restaurant employee had been handling our food. This took close to another 30 minutes. Once again, not a huge deal. They only have so many cooks and most were busy at the hibachi tables. The food was great when it came out. What was disappointing was the lack of response from management. We were offered 15% off our bill which may sound OK but when this restaurant is known for handing out 10% off coupons with every check, it is very weak. We basically had to wait an extra 45 minutes because our food was not handled properly and was left to sit out where another guest could pick it up and handle it. The waitress apologized several times but I would have appreciated a two-second apology from the manager (or even a better discount as a courtesy for the extra wait).Mistakes are inevitable but it’s how you handle them that will keep a customer coming back, or not.By the way, the waitress was great. I wish I could remember her name for this review. And, yes, she still got a good tip out of the deal.
Rude and disloyal owner. We are long time customers of Otani. We went each Wednesday for sushi night and often for dinner. As well as our parents. But not after last night’s horrible experience. The waiter was slow, the orders were off and they charged for a mistake they had to fix. It took long to even get our order put in, then my husband waited 20 minutes for his beer. Our friends waited 15 minutes for their soups and salads. My husbands food didn’t come out until after we finished our sushi. & worst of all, after confronting the owner who knows our family very well, he was rude and embarrassing towards us. Saying he saw no problem and it wasn’t his fault. Then the bill comes, and nothing was even done to make up for it. Horrible experience. Never going back. Very poor customer service.
Thank you for a great night. I went to Otani II with a big group of friends for a celebration. About 20 people in our group. I called ahead as I have Celiacs (can’t eat gluten: no wheat, rye, or barley) which means I can’t have traditional soy sauce. They told me that if I bring my own soy sauce they can accommodate me. Everything was amazing. I was very well taken care of. Everyone I encountered from the hostess, to the waiter, to the chef was extremely kind and went out of their way to make sure I was able to enjoy a wonderful meal safely. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable, especially considering how large our party was.
Best yum yum sauce ever!!
By far the best Japanese Steak House in the area. Entire staff very friendly, very personable cooks and excellent food. Asian and white girl up front so friendly!!! Come here every Friday!!!!! Don’t know what everyone else is talking about?!? Sushi bar service off da chain son!
Refused to make my rice without vegetables in it when other Japanese restaurants in the area will. Service was bad. I will never eat there again.
Sushi not bad, service is horrible. This restraunt may have the worst service ever. If you have plenty of spare time Wednesday sushi specials not bad.
