First visit, atmosphere was pleasant but wasn’t impressed with service. Came in around 7 pm, not very full but service was slow. Food was average; we had veal and gnocchi. Neither stood out as a signature dish both could have used more seasoning. Will say that staff was at least very friendly and nice.

Concerns regarding uneven reviews correct. Came here for a pharma dinner in the back room; a big income to this business on a slow week night. Experienced slow and poor service (should not need to seek the waiter repeatedly to order drinks as attendees arrived), bread was dry (and just butter, no herbed olive oil), mediocre meal (I got the Renato salmon which was ok). Deserts were bad; should have stopped eating the dried out Titamiso but I kept hoping it would improve, the chocolate cake wasn’t finished by one of my party (1 inch thick unpleasant chocolate icing) and others found the texture of the flan off putting. Interior dated. Mediocre meal; I would choose not to return.

User reviews. Ive been here three times. Progressively worse each time and I wont be back. Its no reflection on the waitress. She was phenomenal and the only thing that saved the night.Lets start with the complimentary rolls. WARNING if you have dental crowns steer clear. They were old, stale and obviously warmed in a microwave. In other words rocks! They were drenched in olive oil, garlic salt and parmesan cheese in a poor attempt to add some flavor and make them edible. Epic FAIL!Caprese salad next. How hard is a mozzarella, basil and tomato salad? Not very. It was tasty. But how hard is it to serve food on unbroken plates? Seriously. Rectangle plates with two corners broken off not chipped broken. Seriously?!Finally the most difficult course for any Italian restaurant Plain Sicilian Pizza! Now, Im 51 and have traveled to over 100 countries. Ive experienced pizza in more ways than I could count and this was the WORST by far. Ill take a Turkish or Chilean pizza over this any day even though neither is remotely recognizable as pizza. The dough was like shoe leather time for another dental warning. Not only could we not chew through it, we couldnt cut it with the table knives. The sauce was obviously from a can not a very good can either. And the cheese? Well its cheese how freakin hard is that? To top it all off the crust was burned. Not just a little dark mind you burned black.Seriously the WORST dining experience weve had in years. We dine out 5-6 times a week and this was flat terrible.Do yourself a favor. If you want Italian go somewhere else ANYWHERE ELSE. You can find much better pizza in the freezer section at Food Lion under DiGiorno.

A place for snobs. I’ve been here once with my girlfriend back when we were teenagers. It took a hour to get our seats, that we reserved a head of time. Then the waiter took our drink orders, disappeared for 30 minutes, took our order and then we waited another hour+. By that time we were really hungry. He eventually brought our food, with our drinks. He didn’t give any refills and when I’d wave him over he’d look at me, smile, and go into the kitchen. Eventually he cleared the table and left us with NOTHING for the next hour. He eventually brought over a desert menu and I very sternly told him that I wanted the check because we had places to be. He promptly brought it. It was well over 100 dollars and due to his poor service I left him a $1.00 (a dollar) tip and wrote he needs to wait his tables better.I came back later to talk to a little woman who I was told ran the place. She said she was sorry and that they heard about the tip issue from the kitchen last night. She offered to give us a free meal to make up for it. So I came in a few weeks later and was informed by the host that they didn’t do anything like that there. So I left and I haven’t been back yet. This place is a waste of time for rude service and just OK food.

We went to Renatos with 8 girls who to celebrate a Sweet Sixteen. We waited very long for a rude waiter to come. He took a couple drink orders and disappeared. About 30 minutes later he came with just the adults drinks and took our order. We waited two hours to get our food! My eggplant was just okay but nothing good. The prices are so high for the service and food quality! Oh, and the salad is just a small plate with lettuce and Wishbone dressing! I had heard people say how good Renatos was but not the day we went. It was one of the worst dining experiences!

Great service and comfortable surroundings don’t make up for mediocre food. Overpriced but still a friendly staple of Fredericksburg’s dining scene.
