Good food, good service, good location. We went to visit battlefields and took a break at The Bavarian Chef. We had a tremendous amount of food with plenty of leftovers to take with us. They started with a basket of bread. Then we ordered Hungarian goulash soup and salad with cucumber dill dressing. They were both outstanding and just like Germany. Next came the entrees. Sauerbraten with potato dumplings and red cabbage. Zeugnier schnitzel and green beans and spaetzle. All were very close to German cooking that I remember and that I make, except for the green beans which had an unpleasant way too earthy taste- like someone threw dirt in with them. The service was great. We ate outside the building, which was an old train station. The inside was gorgeous with a great bar, but the outside had a couple of great patios. A man played the accordion and they had traditional German music piped outside. Parking is interesting. They have a few spots beside the north and south sides of the building. They also have a small part of a lot to the West.
Amazing Food. Me and my Wife come to this Restaurant as much as possible, their food is amazing, staff is kind, it’s like coming back to Germany.I seriously dont understand the people who dislike this Restaurant, there has to be something wrong with you, maybe find your way back to TGIF and Outback if you can’t handle good quality food.

Not worth the money or time. They use fillers (bread and hamburger my guess or something like it) in their rouladen. The pork chops were tough, dumplings were cold, and list goes on. For our party of 5 the dinner was very disappointing. Wish we had gone to Burger King for a good hot meal. They would have done it our way. The wait staff was good and the beer was good.
All the steaks/filet is prime. The filet was large & outstanding. Best beef in Fredericksburg. Sides were outstanding. Eaten red cabbage my whole life – this is the best I’ve ever had. Service and German beer selection outstanding.
Consistently good. Having visited this restaurant four times, few can compete with their consistently good food and service. We were always seated promptly and the cuisine has never disappointed. Portions are family-sized for sure. For a different dining experience, try out the Bavarian Chef. They are one of Fredericksburg’s best.
Nice setting. Great German food plus many other options. More food served than I should eat at one sitting. Family style sides include amazing red cabbage, German potato salad, spatzel and more. Will definitely return.
