Many years ago I loved this restaurant but time and a change of ownership have not been kind to this establishment. We did not initially plan on dining at Court House Cafe as we had intended on visiting another nearby restaurant. Having forgotten it was Monday and the restaurant we drove to was closed we considered our options. Court House Cafe was just a short distance away so we decided to give it another try. It had been a couple of years since our last visit and we hadn’t planned on returning due to not enjoying our prime rib dinners on that occasion but why not give it another shot? Service is first rate and the interior of the restaurant is fairly attractive with its dimly lit wooden furnishings and accents. It was around 6:30 in the evening when we arrived and the restaurant was fairly busy. We were immediately seated at a booth and soon our server arrived and took our order. My wife was in the mood for she-crab soup so she ordered a bowl of it and the small fried shrimp appetizer for her dinner. I ordered a seafood combination of fried flounder and broiled crab cake, my sides were steak fries and lima beans. The food arrived within a reasonable time frame and we dug right in. Unfortunately the she-crab soup my wife had been craving all day just didn’t measure up. It had a good amount of crab meat but was just really bland without much taste, it was actually the worst she-crab soup I’ve had in quite some time. It was served with a carafe of sherry which we used along with some salt and pepper but we just couldn’t make it very good. Even with my help my wife didn’t finish the bowl, I can’t recall another instance where my wife has ever not finished a bowl of soup. Her fried shrimp appetizer was very good, lightly breaded and fried perfectly. It was really delicious though I’m not sure it was worth $12 for five little shrimp. My meal was not very exciting, the fried flounder looked beautiful but tasted just pretty average, nothing exciting. The crab cake was bland without much taste. My steak fries were okay and I enjoyed the accompanying hushpuppies. The lima beans were actually pretty nice, probably the highlight of the meal for me. How sad is that lima beans from a can were my favorite part of my dinner?Overall we had a disappointing dining experience. The food was mostly okay except for the tasteless she-crab soup and subpar crab cake. To be honest, we didn’t feel like we got good value for our money as we can get much better seafood at other area restaurants for around the same price. I would rate our seafood on par with Captain D’s but at three or four times the price. I doubt we will return.
A real sleeper. Ill stick my neck out here. You can travel far and wide and you never get a better prime rib. Simply amazing. Dont let the strip mall and local area fool you. This is top quality food and service.
