My new favorite spot. This one replaces Daikichi is my new favorite sushi spot. Food tastes extremely fresh and so delicious. Great looking atmosphere and they even started the meal with those warm towels to wash your hands. Best California roll i ever had. and i don’t even like California Rolls! The chef even had a rat tail! A rat tail! If I went tomorrow it won’t be soon enough.

Extreme disappointment. We have been to Hanaki Sushi three prior times before tonight…..wow…..it seems that each time we go the food and the service become more and more less attractive than the prior time…..the staff just seemed to be overwhelmed when the restaurant becomes filled with patrons! My meal was not hot and it was not tasteful. My girlfriend’s meal was sent back because the meal was almost cold!!!! With so many other choices I guess we will try Hanaki Sushi some time next year and hope for some type of improvement!!!!!!!

Incredible Food, Great Setting. It took us a while to find Haru, but once we did, anytime we’re in the neighborhood, this is where we go. The restaurant, itself, has a nice decor- very modern and comfortable- but, more importantly, the food is incredible. This may sound trivial, but I think they have the best miso soup in the area. The sashimi and rolls were unbelievably good. I thought the prices were about average (maybe a tad bit higher) compared to other places in the Hampton Road area, but I thought it was totally worth it. Like many of the best sushi places in the area, they’re tucked away in a strip mall. I hate strip malls, but the area has a lot of them, so you have to deal with it. It doesn’t matter, though- they’re worth a trip. For us, this holds either the 1st or 2nd place ranking for all the sushi places in the area (we’ve been to about 50-60 of them).

Great little place. Went here with pretty wife to try a new (to us) restaurant. The decor of the place is very elegant and dare I say chic. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating to their customers and we felt very welcome. Upon being seated the waitress brought each of us a warm damp towel to wipe our hands with as well as a refreshing cucumber salad. This is a small place and the menu is large but not extensive. I had the Volcano roll and the Manhattan roll. Both were excellent and the spicy tuna on top of the Manhattan had a nice kick. Both pretty wife an me decided that the wasabi was hotter than any we’ve experienced at other places so be warned. Pretty wife had the Outer Bank’s roll which was good and had a sweet finish. I highly recommend this place but would hesitate to bring small children or a party larger than 6 because of the smaller size.

We LOVE Haru! We used to be regulars at Nagoya and we disappointed when they closed/bought by Domo…until we found out that the owners were opening Haru! We’ve been there ever since! The food is phenomenal! Even my 2 year old will eat the sushi…and there are great non sushi options too! The staff is wonderful and always remember their clients. The chefs are friendly and often offer us samples of new or special rolls or appetizers. And the owners are always there, often serving or checking on things. Haru has certainly turned us into sushi snobs, as we are hesitant to eat sushi anywhere else!
