Hurricane – lots of potential but disappointing. We travel all over the US particularly looking for those gems of restaurants that make the local fare unique. The Joshua Wilton House is one of those locations. The food was outstanding, portion size medium, service lousy. The potential to be an awesome place was really a let down when it took nearly 30 minutes to take our order, and another hour and a half before or entres were served.
Amazing food. Great service. Nice ambiance. Everything a great restaurant should have. My mother and I loved eating here and would definitely come back. I would recommend this place to anyone who’s in the area.
Dinner Feb 6, 2013. Enjoyed a very good meal tonight, with one exception. Our first course was an order of PHYLLO WRAPPED BAKED BRIE and PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND MUSSELS were top notch and entitled to a 5 star rating. The second course of JOSHUA WILTON SALAD and BOSC PEAR SALAD definitely lived up to the proceeding course, yes another 5 star. The main course is where the meal started to slip, the PAN SEARED SEA SCALLOPS, the scallops were seasoned and cooked to perfection, however their side of zucchini fritters, tasted like a badly cooked funnel cake, the zucchini was completely lost in the preparation. On to the problem entre NEW YORK STRIP STEAK, the steak was ordered Very Very Rare. When it arrived the server stated that their steaks are so tender that they can be cut with a butter knife, but if needed a steak knife was available, well very very rare, turned out to be medium rare to medium. The server swiftly snatched it up return to the kitchen for replacement, with an offer to take the other entre and keep it warm till the replacement was ready, but as we all know perfectly cooked scallops should be enjoyed and not keep waiting. When the replacement steak arrived it was cooked properly, the Chef picked the wrong cut of beef, and this steak gave the steak knife a test of worth. This cut should never been cooked less than medium, Ive have gotten better steaks at the local chain grocery, shame on you that should have been a steak that melts in your mouth, not a chewing exercise. The final course of a CRME BRULEE was back up to the standards of the first two courses. Thru all this the wait staff was at their best and handled the situation very professionally.
Most exquisite meal I’ve ever eaten. Enjoyed an aperitif in the lounge and a delicious three course meal. Recommended wine was absolutely superb as was the heavenly crme brle. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. My husband and I will be returning soon, to enjoy a few days here.
Great service and food. I would request the filet steak. The vegetables were delightful. Although pricey, it is worth the dime.
Absolutely the finest restaurant in Virginia west of the Blue Ridge.
Yum But Watch The Wallet. Such a great place to dine especially when your looking for a five star restaurant in Virginia. Great menu with lots of decadent and luxurious options. Perfect for a full multiple course meal or just dessert (sit on the patio with some of the best creme brulee ever tasted)! However, you will be paying for the five stars so to all those on a budget be careful.
