Delicious! Love the saffron chicken. Mango desserts are scrumptious. At lunch you get rice, bread, salad and a side with your main dish and dessert for a great price. Prices are excellent at lunchtime.

Very good food and service. Atmosphere is also excellent. I ordered my food mildly spiced because I’m always nervous and don’t want too much spice. It was mildly spiced as ordered. Next time I might go a little spicier. Amazing for though.

The food was nice. Ambience was good too.We tried lasooni gobhi which was great! The paneer entree and roti were nice too.The portion size was okay for the price.Update:I went back a couple more times. I ordered veg vindaloo. I asked the server to make it hot. It turned out to be disaster. It felt like the cook just put red chilly powder in my dish. The next time I tried a different curry, which tasted quite similar to vindaloo. Not going back ever again.

One of the best restaurants in Richmond. Attentive wait staff and a great atmosphere. The food is wonderfully authentic (and I have dined in India for 2 months), and the naan is some of the best I’ve ever had. You cannot beat their lunch special, and the menu is very well-rounded for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians.

Prices were fair, the food was fine, neither were great. The atmosphere was loud and frenetic. The service was poor. We had to ask twice for an order of Naan and the Chai Tea never came. 7 waiters and they couldn’t pull this simple thing off. Very frustrating. Two forks down, based solely on service or lack thereof. Been there, done that, I’m over it. Repeat after me, I’m going to Malabar.

One of the better Indian Restaurants to arrive in Richmond. Sadly, Richmond’s history of Indian restaurants goes from poor to mediocre with a few flashes of goodness that closed after a few years with the loss of a key chef or financial issues. I have the advantage of having a number of India-born friends who are very good cooks as well as the pleasure to going on business trips to some of the best US Indian restaurants with groups of Indians and Bengalis. So we were very interested in Anokha, particularly after reading the reviews here.Anokha is upscale with a very competent and attentive wait staff. Meals run $12-$18 for the entree. The cuisine on the menu is varied from regions across Indian. We got two lamb dishes and two chicken dishes with an the mixed vegetable starter. The bread and the usual dipping sauces were very competently prepared and very good. The assorted vegetable dish starter was very good, very authentic. But the main courses, while very tasty, are also Americanized. The sauces are uniformly sweeter and less spicy than authentic. The meats were of very high quality, the lamb especially. The kitchen, though asked to prepare two of the spicier dishes VERY hot, authentic hot, could not bring the desired heat. But again, by Richmond standards, best in town. Will do until something better arrives. Next time, will try the goat.
