This is our go-to place for out of town guests. Service, atmosphere, and quality of food are the best in the west end. The owner is gracious and always cares about your dining experience. Not cheap, but a great value for refined dining!

Back again. Sad. Wine list is overpriced and very misleading -pay attention, the wines advertised are not the same year. Big difference! Food was pretty average. Service was slow but good. Sorry, we will not return. It appears that this is likely a permanent turn for the worse.24 Jun, 2011Wonderful!. Very intimate, romantic dining experience. Service was magnificent from the moment we sat at the bar until we staggered out the door. The halibut dish was spectacular. Fresh ingredients, well prepared, beautifully presented. Excellent. Great value -modest prices and very good wine list with good values.

Great. This place is great. Fine dinning for sure.

Outstanding!. This place has been around for a while & fell off our radar. but the other night, we ate there with several couples. It was superb. The service was attentive & seamless, and the food simply terrific, with beautiful presentations. Some of the appetizer standouts were the tuna tartare, shecrab soup, & escargot fricassee in puff pastry. All the entrees were wonderful – every plate was wiped clean. Folks were so into their respective desserts that no one even offered to share! My own was an apple pear tart vielle that had me swooning. This is French food as it should be. My compliments to the lovely owner and manager Annie Lecomte, who has travailed after the loss of her husband, the original chef, and has not only maintained but, in my opinion, surpassed the earlier success.

Love it! You will not find a more tender steak in town. I eat @ Chez Max 2 to 3 times a month and always have an excellent meal and service. If you want quality food and a nice quiet dinning experience you can not go wrong with Chez Max.

Wonderful. I love this restaurant. I love the food, I love the staff, I love the owners. I don’t love the decor, but hey, I’m not there for the decor. Everything I have ever had here has been perfection. The staff is able to effortlessly satisfy any request you may have, and the chef/owner is one of the best in Richmond. It may be a little pricey, but it’s worth every penny.
