Awesome. My wife and I came to Richmond for our anniversary. Yep 24 years. First time away overnight since having kids 15 years ago. We stayed at the West end. I had read about Country Style Donuts in a magazine or somewhere. After a day of Richmond, Belle Island, etc. we where heading back to our hotel in the West End. We remembered the donut shop and with GPS directions made our way there. I admit we where a little leary of the location as the sun was setting. But once inside the smells, friendly staff put us at ease. The donut selection was great. My wife got a coffee roll the size of a hubcap. I liked the country donuts. I liked the way each donut wasn’t perfectly uniform in shape. Reminded me of the cininimon and sugar ones my mom would make in the kitchen on snow days.Every donut was delicious. No complains. My wife and I always like the little places that are nostalgic and off the mainstream radar. This is well worth the trip.Plus we won’t be waiting for just anniversaries to stop in. I know people preach change is good, but in this case, I hope they stay the same. Wish them the best of luck. Rhett and Pam

Couldn’t believe these donuts were only $1 a piece (It sucks at sugar shack when I get a half dozen and it costs like $7.50)The peanut donut is a gem, the perfect candybar-donut hybrid (but not too sweet)Enjoyed the blueberry cake donut and the powdered custard-filledThis place is no frills, country patrons sitting at the counter and a country dude took my order. It wasn’t new and shiny, but seemed cleaned. And it wasn’t filled with hipsters.Went at 8pm on a Sunday and they had more than 20 items to choose fromI usually go to sugar shack weekly, but I’m going to have to start making excuses to go the East end so I can swing by CSD (Sam’s club is close enough right?)

Good & Bad. If you want a great yeast doughnut, go here. If you want a good apple fritter or Long John, go here. The Blueberry chip and Chocolate cake glazed have gotten chewy and dense as of late; almost like the batter is over mixed. ALL the filled doughnuts are really good but they don’t fill them as full as they used to and I’ve been getting them for over a year now. As for a good tasting, wonderfully textured plan glazed, go to Kryspy Kream. Bottom line, you’ve got to get there before 8:00 am if want a good selection and peek freshness. The size of doughnuts are good but lack the amount of filling from before; it depends on what kind of doughnut you want, if you want to get them from CSD!

This isn’t a game- Country Style will change your life. I don’t even like sweets and I will eat a dozen blueberry donuts single handedly by myself with a pot of coffee. Don’t sleep on this place if you have any taste buds within your cranium. A true game changer within the baked goods community- each dozen at a time. R.I.P. Krispy Kreme- go suck one… you never pleased me the way Country Style does.

This is my 3rd time coming to this establishment. The pasties are good and normally I show up in the morning. But this was our first evening out there. Well, after waiting for 3 minutes while the guy working the chatted away with some woman, another gentleman came out from the back. Neither guy interacted with us – like they didn’t wanted our business… I was ready to walk out but my spouse had already started a order. Someone needs to talk to those guys working there working habits.

Best doughnut on the planet period, note, all yeast, decadent, addictive and not easy to attain, far east end and all.
