It was great.
Good choice for displaced NYer. Their pizza is pretty good overall and satisfies this displaced NYer who always searches for good take out style pizza. Lunch special ($4.50 for 2 slices and a fountain drink) is a great deal and what I usually get.
I am a NY/NJ girl and this pizza definitely reminds me of home.
My Kind of Pizza…. Sal’s NY Pizza on Military Highway near Chick-Fil-a in Norfolk brands itself as a New York slice of pizza…and it almost is. Can’t be exactly like New York but, the pizza is quite good and when it is ordered as a thinner crust, you can almost close your eyes and feel like you are in New York. The flavorful Italian sauce is not sweet and I like that. Mozzarella cheese is plentiful but not too much and crust is very tasty and crispy. I wish they had better hot sandwiches. Their chicken parmagiana is okay, nothing special and their meatball parm tastes lile frozen meatballs. Salads are lackluster (who uses tasteless Iceberg lettuce anymore?). The restaurant houses some archaic and very uncomfortable booths…wish the place had more ambience to eat in sometimes. We eat there at least 4x month. The staff is hardworking and very accommodating and friendly.

This is an embaressment to NY. I live on the Outer Banks year round and going here was the worst restrauant experience I’ve ever had. Not only was the food awful but the people working there were very unprofessional. The Gyro came with 2 slices of meat on it and was loaded with lettuce, and from what I know Gyros shouldn’t even have lettuce on them. The garlic knots we reeived cold and when we asked to warm them up they looked at me like I was crazy. Over all I would not recomend this place to anyone
