Good food small portions, no AC, poor seating. This restaurant offers outstanding food, buts its very hard to enjoy it due to the size of the restaurant, the lack of customer service, seating and AC. During summer, it is virtually impossible to eat because of the lack of AC it is really hot and that makes it hard to enjoy your meal when you are sweating. The seating could be much better as most appears to be second hand with some being wobbly and the booths are just not adequate especially for their customer base. Another sticking point is the relatively small portions they give you during the week, is almost as if they are afraid to give it to you. The food is good don’t get me wrong but it is overshadowed by the small portions during the week, the lack of ac during summer and the seating. Has the potential to be the best in the area but not until the problems I mentioned are rectified.
I just recently moved to the area and was pleasantly surprised at the number of Filipino restaurants in the area (19) and wasn’t sure how to decide where to go first! I am so glad I came here, the food is great! The lumpia is amazing and it tastes like my Nani’s, which means a lot. I also took 2 entrees to go and was quite pleased with the adobo and menudo, as well as the scrumptious lechon. I will visit this place again for sure!
While this restaurant offers outstanding food, it would be very hard to enjoy it due to the size of the restaurant, the lack of customer service and AC. During summer, customers must sit on 100 degree weather sharing tables with other people they never met, being unable to eat with sweat trickling down their bodies. Torture. If they’d cared about their customers they would try to improve their stablishment, install air conditioning, find a bigger location.
Real filipino food.. If you are looking for it. This is it.go on Sunday , have the buffet. its like eating home cooking with a bunch of strangers.
Best Filipino Place in Hampton Roads!. This is above and beyond the best Filipino restaurant I’ve been to in Hampton Roads. A Filipino friend and co-worker recommended it to me. It’s kind of a hole-in-the-wall kind of place in that it’s another restaurant-in-a-strip-mall, but the food is amazing! It’s served using a buffet table, but you choose one to two entrees per plate and the staff portions it out for you. (Although I have yet to go, they apparently have an all-you-can-eat buffet on Sundays, though.)I highly recommend the kare kare (a peanut butter stew), the lumpia, the pancit, and the adobo. Really, everything there is delicious, but these are some of my favorites. They also have a pretty good sinigang (a sour soup). As for the comment someone made about the cheap tables and chairs, I thought the tables were actually really nice, but the chairs do leave something to be desired. On the other hand, it’s a tiny price to pay in exchange for excellent, highly affordable food and exceptional service.
Good Filipino Food at a fair price. Of the Filipino establishments in this area of Indian River Road, Kainan is head and shoulders over the rest. The food is fresh and well presented, the quality of food is excellent. Cleanliness is good, food handling is also above par. The only thing I could find wrong is the cheap dining tables and chairs, other than that I rate this Filipino establishment 4 out of 5 stars.
