The only reason I gave 1.5 stars is that Any Indian food is better than non. What a disappointment! We’d been to Nawab and love Rashput in Suffolk. Came here for our anniversary because of the ratings. The service was embarrassing, the food watery and tasteless. No idea how this place scored a 3.9. Must be friends or family leaving reviews. Notice that the owners don’t respond when poor reviews are written. This speaks volumes. Hope it changes. Sounds like it was once a good place that has gotten lazy.
Oh how the mighty have fallen…This place was the BEST Indian food in Hampton Roads. I absolutely loved coming in here to eat. However, over the years quality and service have both declined. I have stopped coming in due to far too many poor service experiences (the bill was incorrect, my friend’s card was ran multiple times, slow wait staff) and they had begun removing/changing things like the Lentil bread they used to provide that was so yummy.I stopped going when the last time I went my butter chicken sauce was watery and the chicken was dry as a bone. My guests meal suffered the same issue, watery sauce and dry chicken. Before that, my Chicken Tikka Masala was actually BURNT. And that was after a 45 minute wait for the food. The staff at the time didn’t seem to want to do much to rectify the situation, even after being notified, as others have commented.Check out India Palace out in Chesapeake. The service there is hit or miss, but at least their food is on point.
The food is great! Lots of people complaining about the service. Keep in mind the owners/employees are all Indian, probably immigrated from India… Americans are spoiled and expect impeccable customer service and whine like babies when they don’t get it. Most other cultures are very matter of fact and don’t cater to the delicate American ego. Go overseas, experience other cultures… Go to the restaurant, enjoy the food and keep your attitude in check 🙂
Excellent!. So I have never tried authentic Indian food before this place. My co worker is from India, and suggested it. The butter chicken was delicious. We tried some Indian beer and a few other dishes, all very good. Served hot and fresh. I took another co- worker there for the lunch Buffett and again, wonderful food. I would recommend Saffron and try the butter chicken dish! Free dessert as well which was yummy!!!!
Friend was home from law school, went to the buffet at 1:45 not realizing they would be closing it at 2:30. The host seated us without informing us. After getting our first plate of food we were subsequently harassed by 3 different people that we should get any additional plates of food now all at once and just leave them on our table. Because of the poor climate created by being harassed frequently we were not happy. The manager continued to beg us to get our last plates of food, only having had 1. We began to argue, the manager offered to pay our check, as we left he accused us of hustling him out of the ten dollar buffet. This staff gave me and my friend the worst dining experience we’ve ever had.

The food is still good, but the portions are smaller and service is bad. I love Indian food and have been to Saffron for lunch and dinner many times. I will not be returning. The last time (early spring) we went for dinner, the service was okay but very slow, and they forgot an item. We went again, and the service was terrible. It wasn’t crowded at all, but the host sat us in the corner by the kitchen, away from the other tables. The server was prompt with our drinks and order but forgot our appetizer. And, after taking our order, he didn’t return until our entrees were ready. We’ve ordered the same items on multiple occasions, and the servings were smaller than usual. The food was good, but the entire experience put me off, and I have no desire to go back. I wouldn’t usually write a negative review like this, but this was so bad and for no apparent reason.
