Poor Service. We had a 6PM reservation so we could make an 8PM show. Seemed like enough time. When we arrived the restaurant wasn’t full. Our server took our order promptly. Our order included an appetizer. We waited for patiently, even though our waiter brought bread and appetizers to people that came in after we did. I finally had to ask or server to bring us some bread, even though he had brought bread to tables right next to us. Our main course arrived. We never did get our appetizers. To finish it off, the server never came to pick up our credit card. As it was time to leave for the show (7:50), I had to take my bill to the front desk to pay. To me, there was no excuse for such sloppy service. By the way, our food was well prepared and it was a Saturday night. We ma go back, but probably not on a Saturday.

I’ve never eaten dinner here, but living close by I used to love walking in for a glass or two of wine. The drinks and food is a bit pricy. They have Sunday specials that are worth going for. I’ve gotten the cheese and meat platter which was delicious but small. I’ve not run into the bad service but I also kept things simple while there.

Quality Control. I visited Sonoma Wine Bar & Bistro for the first time on Saturday the 27th of July. Unfortunately the experience left me disappointed. I order the Kickin Corn & Crab Chowder along with the Pasta Sonoma. The chowder and my entre came out at the same exact time; needless to say, I tend to believe that an item that is listed under Soups and Salads would come out before the main entre (if you in fact order one). Guess what not here, even though I expect it had been sitting for some time since the chowder was far from Kickin and just cold. Of course, I actually had to request a spoon so I could try the chowder. This would lead to the problem with our service. We hardly ever saw our waiter and my friends insisted they had been there many times and relayed this is far from the standard. In about a 90 minute period we saw the waiter at our table 4 times, one of which was to take the chowder back, which he then asked if I would like to have it reheated, I declined and still amazed that they thought it was okay with the timing and quality control. For the main entre, I was not impressed. Maybe partially due to the chowder and service but I expected a bit more for the price. The taste did not come together and the 2 shrimp missed the mark (over cooked and a bit on the soft side) the 2 scallops were actually done well, that being said I thought they should have a bit more of both the items when it is listed as the highlight in the meal.I would have to find a great reason to return and right now I am not sure what will actually take.

Service and food of equal importance. Dined at the Virginia Beach restaurant 7/28/13 in observance of our 44th anniversary. The meal was superb, but the service left much to be desired. Not once did our server ask about the quality of the meal. Only the minimumattention was received. Our service was far less attentive than that given by our waiter to the table behind us. We also stated online that this was an anniversary celebration and that was never mentioned. Restaurants must alert their staff to extend the same service to ALL CUSTOMERS.

Love Sonoma. After reading the reviews, I had to post. What a bunch of hateful a##*oles most of you are. I am in the restaurant / night life business in New York City. I FREQUENTLY travel to VA Beach, and my visits to Sonoma are the highlight of my trip….all the time. That means I go there often, so my opinion of the place is based on what it’s like most of the time rather than on one trip where my daughters Shirley temple wasn’t properly prepared. I have never received poor service at Sonoma, but rather experienced servers that have gone out of their way to make sure my dining experience was excellent. I can recall one occasion when my dining companion had a complaint about the tomatoes in his dish, and the item was removed from our bill, without question.I have repeatedly been offered samples of new featured wines the restaurant is serving, and have always been welcomed pleasantly. Most people who are not in this business have no idea what it takes to make a restaurant work. Perhaps if their work was so heavily and publicly scrutinized, by virtually anonymous individuals in a public forum, they wouldn’t be so undeservedly harsh. With their criticism.I’ll be back in VA next month, and I can’t wait to get to Sonoma.
