This is the best authentic Mexican food in Virginia! I’ve tried many places out but none even come close. The Tortas oh the Tortas! It makes me want to drive to Richmond right now just to get one.
Hidden gem! This place is AWESOME. Located in the back of a Latino Market, the little eatery is one of the best (if not THE best) Latino food spots in RVA. The food is excellent, and very authentic. You can either order the daily, already made entrees and sides, or order from the small menu. Everything tastes very fresh, and very flavorful.. The avocado slices on the tacos, tostadas, etc are a great touch. Don’t forget a squeeze of lime and the fresh made red and green sauces!01 Jun, 2014Hidden gem! This place is AWESOME. Great, Authentic Mexican food North of the River. Finally! Authentic Mexican food north of the river. I had the tacos de pollo, lengua, and al pastor – all very good. They have daily specials that look great – I’ll be trying those next.Their red salsa starts off ok but gets VERY hot very quickly. They even have sugar at the register to help put out the fire.
Hidden Gem. This place has been around for 9 years and is so deeply tucked away from the non-Hispanic community, you could easily miss it. Latino Village is a grocery store. Just head to the back of the store and you will find a decent size dining area with delicious, authentic food!I tried the food as Habanero Mexican Grill and found that the meat in the Carne Asada here is more tender and their torta is not has greasy but the bread they use at Habanero for the tortas is much tastier. If you have never tried Zopes, this is the place. They hand make the thick tortillas in front of you, fry it, top it with your choice of meat, lettuce, onions, Mexican sour cream and generous chunks of fresh queso. (Don’t leave without asking for a fork!)I found some of the employees do not speak English as well as others but all are nice and friendly, at least when we went.
