Good tasting banh xeo and bun dac biet. But it was over $10 an entree so this restaurant should have two $$. A little pricey and not very well air conditioned on a summer day.

Bnh M Deluxe. A little over a week ago I had visited Xuan (pronounced SOON) Saigon in search of the ever rare Bnh M (Vietnamese Sandwich) which is common near Falls Church, VA because of the larger Vietnamese community. I was pleasantly surprised when the Mrs. Xuan Nguyen contacted me to let me know that she had some bnh m available as long as I called ahead to give her time to prepare. The bnh m was served in a light Vietnamese baguette which is traditionally made with rice and wheat flour lending to it a nice crispiness. The bnh m itself consisted of tht nng (grilled pork), ch la (Vietnamese ham) a thin layer of liver pt, cilantro, jalapeo pepper, pickled daikon radish, carrots and a splash of nc tng (soy sauce)The flavor combination of the above ingredients were very well balanced and the filling to bread ratio was perfect. I had a chance to speak with Mrs. Nguyen to compliment her on having the best bnh m that I have been able to find In the area. I also expressed the amount of interest that she would generate if this became a part of the permanent menu. She commented that she would be able to introduce several different variations of the bnh m but wanted to make sure that it was done well. Some filling suggestions that I would like to see were g nng (grilled chicken), tht nng (grilled pork), ch la (Vietnamese ham), bi chay (shredded tofu) and a deluxe a la carte version letting you create a custom flavor combination. It was quite clear to me the amount of care she had taken to create and assemble this gastronomic masterpiece. The liver pt used in this sandwich was outstanding and I had come to find out that it was made from scratch and wasn’t derived from a can; in fact, all of the items that were in this sandwich were made fresh to order. If you are a fan of good bnh m call ahead and ask Mrs. Nguyen if she has any available today, with continued interest, it is sure to become the next big thing to arrive on the menu.02 Jul, 2011Hidden Vietnamese Gem of Leesburg. A gem nestled in the edge of the Town of Leesburg hidden in a strip mall; the location may prove a challenge to find but is worth it. The wait staff is very attentive and I ordered a nice cold C ph sa (Vietnamese Iced Coffee) to start since it was a hot summer day.The starter course consisted of A3. Ginger Lime Tofu. It was served with a side of salt, pepper and lime with a garnish of ginger and fried garlic on top of the golden cubes of tofu. The dish is simple and every bit flavorful. The main course consisted of C1. Grilled Pork on Steamed Rice. The dish came served with a perfect portion of marinated grilled pork atop a bed of white rice accompanied by a side of pickled daikon radish and carrots as well as some fresh slices of English cucumbers and tomato. The pork had a sprinkling of fried garlic and a dash of spring onion to help accentuate the flavor of the marinade. A side bowl of nc mm (Fish Sauce) was served to allow the diner to add it to the main dish to taste. The pork was tender and had a nice balance of sweet and savory. The one thing that I would love to see added to the menu is Bnh m (Vietnamese Sandwiches) which is not readily available in Loudoun County. The Xuan Saigon restaurant opened it’s doors in 2005 and appears to be doing well. If you have a craving for Vietnamese cuisine and happen to be in the Leesburg area, you’ll want to give this restaurant a try. One last thing to note, this restaurant also serves Ph (Vietnamese Noodle Soup) which I will be trying out on my next visit.

My family went there for the first time last week. We all got pho and summer rolls to start. First time ever, we ALL finished our whole bowls – even my picky 4 year old who’d never tried it before. (she even helped her dad finish his). The broth was outstanding – the best we’ve ever had (they had beef, I had vegetarian) and everything tasted wonderfully. The summer rolls were fresh and delicious. Can’t wait to go back.

Outstanding. Xuan [pronounced SOON] is the inspired owner/chef of this excellent Vietnamese restaurant. Her simple but welcoming restaurant excels in fresh, fresh food which is exceptionally well presented. Her menu features many types of Vietnamese soups [pho]. However, my personal favorites are her fresh Garden Rolls, Soft Shell Crabs with Watercress, Green Lipped Mussels, followed by Mango with Sticky Rice Pudding for desert.
