Stopped in for lunch for a quick bite to eat. Good selection of beer on tap and good menu. I prefer Gator’s to Kelly’s Tavern. The food is a little pricey for what it is (typical bar and grill food) but it is flavorful and not too far off similar fare. I got the small loaded fries and two beers. They definitely don’t skimp as you see in the picture. It was a cheesy bacon-y mess and no that’s not a complaint! It took forever to get to us and the bartender had to be flagged down a couple times to get our drinks, but the food was really good. I visit these locations around the area and will keep it as a regular for late night dining and maybe the occasional Sunday football spot.Total price including tip: $20

Bad Experience – Never Going Back. I get what AJ Gator’s is… it’s a sports bar where you can drink some beer/alcohol, eat some food, and watch some sports… that is all my party of 4 wanted to do last Tuesday night. We walked in and were seated at a table. We were never given a menu by the hostess and we were never tended to by a server. After 10 minutes of waiting, I went to the bar to let a the bartender know that we hadn’t been waited on and she apologized and said that she would get right on it. We waited for another 10 minutes without anyone even bothering to come by. After that, we just got up and left. AJ Gator’s lost out on at least $100 worth of drinks and food orders. Will not be returning.

We love this location! Great staff and bartender. Chef is very good. Funnel cake fries, Buffalo Chicken wrap and new sweet potato fries are great! If you haven’t been in a while go back and check it out!

I like the other locations better. The bartenders seemed to definitely favor the male customers. And the wines by the glass are very limited at this location, compared to Norfolk and Chesapeake. This location needs to catch up to the standards of the others.

Great wings. As a veteran of foreign bars, it is always good to come home for some decent chicken wings. I always look forward to stopping in when in port.

Dumbfounded. My mate Matt & I were in pursuit of pub food the other day for lunch. Not knowing where to go, he asked me for my suggestion. I gave A.J. Gators because Gators is a place that is consistently stellar & has a vast menu. I have gone to Gators numerous times over the last decade & never left dissatisfied. That all changed on this day & here is why.We arrived to a near empty restaurant at about 12:00. We were handed the menus & noticed they had a 25% discount for military on Wednesdays. Excited we were, we thought we were in for a discount as this was Wednesday. I even stated to the Waitress that Matt & I were military. Once we looked through the menus Matt noticed on the rear page that the discount is only good after 5:30. Matt went with the Bacon Cheeseburger & I had the Turkey Melt on Texas Toast. We both paid the 99 cents extra to receive fries vice chips. Both meals weren’t the best. The fries were overcooked & Matt’s Cheeseburger had little to no taste he claims. The melt was good, but only when dipped into Ranch dressing. All in all the meal met our expectations . . . Except for the whole discount thing. First off, to have something on the cover of the menu & only to have it contradicted (or provide the fine print) on the back irritates me. Also, the Waitress didn’t bother to enlighten us about the hours of the discount when I told her that we were both military. Lastly, what was the harm in giving us the discount? It wasn’t like the placed was packed. It was us & another table. In the end, Gators made their couple of extra dollars, but lost two customers.
