Not impressed. Arrived early for a show. Initially told no reservations available, only to walk into a vacant restaurant. Ordered the escargot. Overrun with breading and couldn’t taste anything but bread and butter. Followed with the scallops. The fire was to hot and all the scallops were scorched. The waiter took it back and the second round was passable, but I have no need to return with other options in the area.

Will not return. I recently dined at Rappahannock in Richmond. A restaurant that boasts world class service, and great seafood. I had previously made a reservation on open table. When I arrived on time, there were two very young people manning the maitre Ds desk, and both seemed both confused and incredibly slow in figuring out who should be seated and where. Two people doing one persons job, and doing it poorly. The nose piercings were interesting, but their incompetency trumped the sheer beauty of the studs through their noses. Once seated, our server seemed rushed and overwhelmed, and from what I observed he was. When my seafood finally arrived (Snook) it was raw and I had to send it back and wait another ten minutes while I watched my date consume her meal of monkfish, which was good but not great. The kicker was that I ordered a bottle of $50 sauvignon blanc and after another long wait was told they were out of it. So I asked for any other sauvignon blanc and was told the restaurant was completely out. Oh and by the way, my dinner rez was for 5:45 so it was not like they ran out of perhaps the most popular varietal of white wine to drink with seafood late in the evening. They ran out when the evening began, and this was a Saturday evening. With a bill way over a hundred dollars, this was a sad, if not laughable experience. Juleps, long a pillar of fine southern dining is shortly opening one block away. Cant wait!

Always fun. This is a great place and lots of fun. If alone or with one other, I prefer to sit and dine at the bar. Nice atmosphere with colorful and energetic staff. If you want the freshest oysters (not all they serve and the menu is outstanding) , it’s hard to beat this place. Oysters are shucked in view of you upon each order. Don’t miss the fire-grilled scallops.

TERRIBLE EXCUSE FOR A SEAFOOD RESTAURANT. This place is a total waste of money! I did have reservations and I was expecting a NICE meal with great SEAFOOD. I could not have been more wrong! The food was absurd- a food snobs idea of ‘what seafood is supposed to be’ did not cut it. There was ZERO flavor in anything. My table got three different dishes and everything they served tasted like it had been cooked with dirty dish soap (not to mention looked liked that). The scallops were ‘grilled’ so they tasted burnt and that taste was the ONLY taste in the entire dish. They had a stew that looked like the dish water and I’m pretty sure it was not far from it. When I go to a nice restaurant especially seafood, I do expect to receive quality food. I don’t know why in the world they charge the prices for the garbage they are serving there. I rarely leave a restaurant thinking I have got to warn people how terrible this food was. Also, for a table of five, when the restaurant was not busy- we waited an hour for our below average meal at an above average price. I don’t think anyone would have a problem recreating these meals at home-just add random ingredients and some water to a dish and PRESTO you have a dish made by THE RAPPAHANNOCK RESTAURANT! So, if its a quality seafood you are looking for then this is not the place for you. Maybe its okay for people who don’t know seafood, but for you people who have taste buds don’t waste your time or MONEY!

Wonderful food with a side of arrogant service…. This is my third visit to Rappahannock and the food has been exceptional every time. That being said, it is very expensive and this past time both the bartender and our waitress were rude, arrogant and almost completely silent unless asked a direct question. For the money, both the food and service should be exceptional. Probably my last visit.
