Amuse is what I guess you'd expect from a museum restaurant. It really wants to be something special but just doesn't have the volume to quite make it…

We were less then impressed with Amuse. We had high hopes considering all its great reviews but found it to be big on the Froo-Froo and completely lacking in the food-food. Neither my husband or I are huge quantity eaters, but none the less we had to stop for food on the way home. The crab cake was the smallest I’ve ever been served. The very large windows did give a nice view, the room was less than impressive. We will not be going back.
Food was amazing. We ordered the mussles, crab cake and lamb. We ate every bite. Menu was well thought out and staff was excellent and attentive.
Nice ambience. And convenient while enjoying the VMFA. The food was good, but probably would not make a special trip to dine there. I do wish them much success.
Lovely Place to Dine. Only problem with this establishment is that it is in the museum and must comply with its operating hours. Did not try the food but spoke with the staff who seemed more than competent.
Yum!. We went for lunch, and enjoyed everything we tried. Hubby had borsch, Scotch egg (adorable, as it was served in a ‘nest’ of crispy, shredded phyllo dough), and salmon ratatouille. All were good, but his favorite was the egg. I had the salad of local greens and Caramont Farm goat cheese with Marcona almonds.. It was huge! I also had the crab cake entree. The crab cake was delicious, and was all crab. I couldn’t tell how it was held together, as I could see no filler inside. It came with a smoky rice and succotash, with chow chow. It was a pity we didn’t leave room for dessert, as they had several that sounded good. The service was prompt and attentive, and we enjoyed the view.
Not sure I understand the accolades. The food is fine, the service is fine … If you’re not picky. My food was not as warm as it should have been, but I’m not super particular. The waiter had terrible timing – to the point where he was telling us about desserts when I was halfway through my meal. The could do a lot better, and they will need to if they are to live up to the high expectations and overly positive reviews.
Not worth the hype!!. I heard a lot of good things about this place. But unfortunately I was disappointed. We showed up on a hot evening for our reservation and in order to sit inside (which is what I wanted,) I had to wait another 20-30 min. But since we were hungry we just decided to sit outside despite the hot weather. I ordered the free range chicken breast. I think it was the dryest chicken I’ve had in my life. My boyfriend ordered a fried green tomato and crabcake sandwich, in which we didn’t know the the fried green tomato were used as the breading of the sandwich, that came with a tiny bit of greens. We left out of there very hungry and the price was way too much for what we ordered. We were not satisfied.
