10 Reviews on “Baker’s Crust Bread Market”
Won’t be going back…. I went here on 12/31/2012 for lunch, and the rave reviews people have personally given me are totally not warranted. Service was just okay at best (our waitress admittedly forgot about us… for a LONG time ???), and the food was nothing great. I had the California Rueben, which was the dryest sandwich I have ever eaten. The food wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t good either. I won’t be going back.
Not Great. I really want to like Baker’s Crust, but I can’t do it. They have great menu items, but the prices are way too much for what you get, and most of the meals (especially the crepes) aren’t nearly as good as you’d expect.
Horrible Service. My brother and I recently has breakfast here. The service was horrible. After 10 minutes of waiting we had to track down a waitress to take our order. It took another 8 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Our breakfast order was messed up twice. We called the manager over to the table to inform him that we leaving. He was aware that our service was bad but attempted to make excuses. We will never dine there again.
Beyond the basics. They feature fresh, fine ingredients and imaginative entrees. The menu is diverse with plenty of vegetarian options, such as the roasted veggie panini or the apple brie bruschetta. This place is a bakery-restaurant so the sandwiches and paninis on the menu are made with their delicious breads. There are plenty of homemade pastries to choose from as well. Try one with a white mocha coffee or an espresso served in the traditional manner, with a lemon rind twist. Breakfast is served until 11a, which was a slight dissapointment the last time we visited around 1p because I was counting on a huge and delicious omelette. Whether breakfast or lunch, I’ve always been delighted with everything I’ve chosen. Prices are reasonable except for the mixed drinks, which can cost you anywhere from $8-13! It can get busy, especially during brunch and lunch, but the atmosphere is casual and the waitstaff are attentive. Try this place any time you want a fresh, creative bite and a little diversion from the norm.
One of Richmond’s best breakfasts. The GOOD: Top 3 Richmond breakfast/brunch spot. Gourmet waffles, pancakes, omelettes etc. Also does a good lunch… sandwiches, soups, and salads. Not surprisingly — their bread pops. They make a mean burger. The recent addition of brick oven pizzas is great and helps the dinner scene. Secret outdoor dining patio! Reasonable prices. Killer cream puffs/dessert bar.The BAD: Breakfast stops at 11am!!!! Painfully early on a weekend! The dinner menu is random, like they can’t decide what kind of restaurant they want to be.VERDICT: I like this place. It’s comforting and satisfying. I just have to get up in time!
Hmmm. I found the servings to be small. While the choices all sounded promising I found them less than average. I had the chicken and guacamole pannini the bread was cheddar jalapeo with little flavour. The tomato cheese soup was better than Campbell’s but not much better. The smoked salmon BLT sounded promising but was mediocre at best. Several other sandwiches were tried but nothing exciting. All served with homemade chips which were greasy. Sweet potato fries came with a good dipping sauce. Desserts were better but I don’t think worthy of great reviews. Had the Jamaican crepes they were good a little too sweet. Apple pie was good would have been better if it was warm. The cheesecake on a stick sounded fun the coating was good the cheesecake was mediocre at best. Will not be going back.Service was good but the hostess was awful tried to seat 5 of us at a 4 top and 3 of our party were over 6 feet tall when we asked for a bigger table she walked away without saying a word then came back and said fine follow me… Not the southern charm I had expected.
A Losing Battle. At one point in time I feel like you got a lot of bang for your buck.. However, now they hide smaller proportions behind presentation and plating. Pricing in general has also gone up to accommodate a slowing in sales and as a customer I simply have to ask: where’s the added value? I’m also not in love with the Baker’s Crust brand/concept. I could really care less that the bread is baked fresh in Virginia Beach and trucked to Richmond each day. How much is this costing in gas and when and where do rising gas prices get passed along to the customer? There has to be a decent bakery in the Richmond-region that can supplant the need for such trucking. The menu also loses me here too. This restaurant is supposed to be mid-price ranged – a burger, grinder, panini, sandwich joint, dotted with a few high-priced entres, but the menu states otherwise. Seems as if the high-priced entres have taken center stage and without much cause. I would expect a major concept change of this nature to create cause for a major revamp in the look and feel of the place, but not much has changed? The place is still pretty much the same, no? Open and airy, bit of a cafeteria-style with a host and servers? In the middle of an economic downturn adding such overpriced menu options might also alienate your burger and grinder crowd, because I def. don’t think I’ll be spending $15 for meatloaf t Baker’s Crust anytime soon.
