Horrible food. It taste as if they reheated my order for a precious day and served it to me. It was tough, hard, chewy and dry. Would not recommend or return for more food. Thumbs down
I’ve eaten at Farouk’s twice now. Compared to other places the taste is a bit mild and narrow in scope…one dish is not all that distinguishable in taste from another. However, the service is always very fast and friendly. While I have certainly had better Indian food in the past, I don’t feel bad recommending this place because it is a cozy Carytown stop that hits the spot on a cold winter day. I will definitely be returning in the future.
Return visit. My daughter and I returned to Farouk’s recently — first week of January 2013 –for the dinner service. I ordered the chicken vindaloo, sweat hot version, while she ordered chicken Tikka Masala. The vindaloo was very good, and definitely made me warm as a tick 🙂 Perhaps I’ll try the hottest version next time. She liked the Tikka as well. We asked for a second side of rice, provided free of charge as before. The naan was also good, as was the chutney that was provided.Excellent service, excellent food, and quiet atmosphere for the dinner service. We both will come back.18 Jun, 2012First time visit, good impression. I visited Farouk’s in Carytown for the first time yesterday for dinner with my teenage daughter. It is a small restaurant, not fancy, but decent. The service was very good, very prompt, and pleasant. I ordered the dal soup, the chicken masala while my daughter ordered the chicken madras. We also ordered a side of naan, which came warm and somewhat chewy, but was good; we tore off pieces to eat with our entrees. Both were pleasantly spicy, medium hot (the Madras was a little less hot than the Masala), and the flavors were fairly well layered. A large side of rice came, very fluffy for the both of us. We actually had to ask for a second side of rice to finish off the rest of our meal — no charge. The portions came in large bowls, and were almost more than enough. The dal (lentils) was in a green cream sauce, mildly spicy; the beans were blended, instead of mostly whole, which is what I’ve had in the past. I don’t know if this is normal for dal, but it was adequate. The service staff kept topping our water glasses as we progressed through our dinner, which was nice. We were able to take our leftovers home. The only minor negative is that midway through our meal, a party of about eight came in; we were asked to move to the next table so that this party could be accommodated. We were agreeable to that, though, even though this has never happened to us before. My daughter and I agreed that we would probably come back to the restaurant for the good food and the good pricing of the entrees.
