Didn’t stay for the food because the atmosphere sucked and the water was lukewarm and tasted like chlorine. Would not recommend, and I’m an avid sushi lover.
Excellent sushi and variety. Cozy environment. Horrid service.
Good and Bad. Thought we’d try Momotaro after getting rave reviews from a co worker. Very small on the inside, but cute, typical sushi decor. Our water didn’t have ice in it, what restaurant doesn’t have ice? Prices ranged from 5-16 for various rolls, which was pricey for the size of the actual rolls we got. We ordered 4 rolls, the RVA, spicy trio, Candycane and the scallop. The Candycane was excellent as was the RVA, but the other 2 were sub-par. My biggest complaint was the bits of crunch in the rolls were extremely stale, either from the beginning of the night or the day before. It needed to be fried to order. I found it was the only thing I could concentrate on, instead of enjoying the meal. I’ll pass on Momotaro next time and head to Akida’s.
Not To Impressed. Tried the shumai as an appetizer. It was decent but overloaded with wasabi which caught me off guard. The rolls were good but way too small for the price and the water came with no ice and the napkins were very cheap dollar store picnic napkins. Overall it was an alright but expensive experience.
A++. Momotaro is a true sushi restaurant. They really care about the freshness of the seafood. I have been eating sushi all my life and have tried many place in different countries, Momotaro struck me with the authentic Japanese flavors. I give it a A+. People who don’t like Momotaro does not know what sushi should really taste like!
Innovative, and fresh. I recently moved to Richmond from Cali about 6 months ago, and have been on a bit of a search for some fresh east coast sushi. Though, the fish was served ona bed of lettuce as the other user stated, the fish was fresher than anywhere else I’ve tried. Momotaro (as well as sumo san) have definitely met up to my high expectations for sushi. The wait staff is attentive and enjoyable, and they treat you like VIP because it’s so small. I suggest getting some shumai and the smokey tuna roll–as well as some sashimi.
Best Sushi in Richmond. You just simple have to go. Its a small, uber friendly, sushi spot in Carytowne. Justin is the owner – hes great. Best rolls are Naruto, Amanda roll, NY roll and Smokey Tuna roll.
