Really a good experience. I agree with most people that the service is not great, waiter was too rushed and just didn’t care, but the food was really good for Richmond Mexican! I had the Trio (beef, chicken and pork taco) which was good and my wife had the Shrimp Tacos which had an excellent mango salsa…Margarita was GREAT too!!
Bland salsa and the food is nothing to write home about. Much better Carytown restaurants than this.
Over Hyped Crap.. The wait staff were very helpful, but the food was so vile that i couldn’t even eat it. I ordered the chile relleno, which is a pablano peper traditionaly fried in an egg batter and stuffed with cheese and then smothered in a brown sauce. i was actually kind of excited, because most places tend to not understand the part about it needing to be battered. however, the chile relleno was baked, not fried, resulting in a dry and stiff texture unlike the moist and fluffy texture that it should have been. i never thought that you could over stuff something with cheese before, but they did. the sauce was basically non existant. just a slight drizzle. i guess it was for colour. i could have gotten a similiar result by microwaving a block of cheese on top of stale piece of french toast.
The food and the service were both excellent! We sat at the bar which was not the most comfortable, but the bartender (Kara) was very friendly and helped make it a nice experience. We will definitely be going back!
Fun Atmosphere…. So this being a restaurant review, I’ll happily comment on why I like Nacho Mama’s – please note the absence of any thoughts on their food…Here’s pretty much Nacho Mama’s in a nutshell: great location (for me; I live in Carytown), loud & fun atmosphere, tiny bar, fun bartenders. They’ve recently added some fairly serious tequila, so more points there too… all-in-all a great place to drink, as long as you can snag a seat (out of 8) at the bar!
Yummy margaritas…and that’s basically it. Nacho Mama’s explained: you don’t order a margarita to enjoy with your food, you order food because you’re on your second watermelon margarita and you need something to soak it up. The drink selection is great and they have a decent happy hour, but the food is mediocre at best. It’s fake Mexican that can really be described as big portions of taco bell.
It maybe OK for Margaritas. But for food its bad. Bad service, stale chips and very bland food.
