Nothing fancy about the food, definitely a take out/delivery spot. But the quality of the dishes is good, as are the prices. Too bad it isn't inviting…

Tonight was another great night to hit the town, it’s my last meal of freedom before going back to work tomorrow. We decided to hit up Urban Thai on 23rd street near Crystal City. It was my first time eating at Urban Thai, but being familiar with the area made it easy to find and I felt comfortable. Summer was on full display, with paper flowers and colorful artwork on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. My coworker, Nam, is always talking this place up – she swears by this place – so I was already excited for food I hadn’t even ordered yet.We started with a side of Larb Gai and Chai ICed Teas. The larb was on point with equal notes of spice and fish sauce. You always know when larb is on the way because you can smell it. It smells absolutely awful, but tastes like heaven. The raw red onions and fresh cilantro really hit the spot. The Chai iced tea was pretty standard – but that’s why I love it no matter where I go. Sweet, creamsicle colored, and usually gone fast.I ordered the Pad Woon-Sen (Chicken stir fried with cellophane noodles, clery, carrot, onion, egg, cabbage in a light soy sauce) and Max got the Kao Moon Gai Tod (Battered chicken breast served over steamed ginger-garlic rice with a ginger soy bean and sweet chili garlic sauces). The Pad Woon-Sen was fresh and tasty – but I didn’t realize I wanted something with punching flavor until I tried Max’s dish. The sauces with the chicken took it to another level, and the ginger-garlic rice is really something else. It’s so simple, but it makes the rice so much more delicious. If you’re looking for a filling and satisfying meal before hitting up Freddies, just stop next door.
Delicious. So, I’ve had my fair share of thai. I normally don’t veer from my usual order of chicken pad thai, but I’ve had about 5-6 different dishes from this place, all of which have been really great. I’ve had the Pad Gai, Rama Chicken, and Chicken with basil (all of which are on the lunch menu at an awesome price fyi) that were tasteful, fresh, and wonderfully satiating. My go to is the pad thai along with the pad see eew, which are also really great, although the pad thai can be a little dry so I add a bit of peanut sauce to give it some texture and extra taste (a little unconventional some people may say). If you’re in the hankering for some tasty thai at a decent price, look no further, urban thai is the place to go.
Not the best Pad Thai but my husband LOVED the Crispy Duck! The shrimp, avocado, and mango appetizer was great, too.
Very good food here but not as much ambience and character as the Top Thai restaurant a few doors down.
People like this place? Really?. I must have had an off night…I love Thai food…I eat it all the time. This was the worst Thai food I have EVER had. You couldn’t pay me to go back…I am really starting to question the ratings on this app.
In from out of town and saw the good reviews. They were right. Food is fresh and tasty. Staff is very friendly.
Really good Thai food. I am by no means knowledgeable on Thai cuisine, but I do know when food taste good. I was in town due to work therefore it was my first visit to Urban Thai. I chose this restaurant after reading good reviews and the close proximity of my hotel and was not disappointed. The taste of the food was spectacular. The freshness in the two dishes I had, the Tom Kha Gai soup and Drunken Noodle with chicken was evident in the taste. The presentation of the meal made it visually appealing and shows the passion they have for their food. I’ve had Thai food in other states/countries and know this one is better than average, I haven’t tried other Thai restaurants in the area and now probably never will. Not since I’ve tried Urban Thai, if I am in the area again I will definitely go to Urban Thai again.
