Great place to grab a drink and food. The deck on the water in the back has a great atmosphere. They have a large selection of draft beers and a good menu. The smoked buffalo wings are the best I have had in Norfolk. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.
So what’s old is what’s new again. Mack’s Barge has returned. Returned you say? Yes, years ago before this building was O’Sullivan’s Wharf it was previously called Mack’s Barge. Bet most of you didn’t know that.First thing, the building. It’s been completely flipped. The interior was gutted and everything is brand new and very very clean. The tile, the bar, the seating and tables, and even the deck. Yes, the deck! They tore out the warped old narrow one and put in a brand new deck that looks to be more than twice as wide as the original. Plenty of room to walk to your table and eat without having to turn sideways. The exterior has also been cleaned up and painted. The building looks better than she has in years. There was a smallish crowd present, however it was a Tuesday evening on their first week open. A friend was along as well and we took seats at the bar and met our bartender and a lady I’m assuming was the manager. Our bartender was really friendly and apparently a photographer as well and we shot the breeze about that for a bit and enjoyed a couple of pints before ordering. To start, I ordered their Kansas City Pork Rolls. These little egg rolls were delicious! They were smallish egg rolls with an very thin and flaky shell. I really enjoyed them and both of the sauces they were served with. For dinner I went with their burger called The Southerner. It came with pimento cheese, fried green tomato and a garlic mayo. I added bacon because you know, it’s bacon! They build their burger patties there from ground beef. I didn’t catch where they get the beef from. My burger was delicious and the combination of the garlic mayo with the fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese made for quite an assortment of tastes. Especially the garlic mayo I’ll definitely be having this burger again. After dinner I went outside and checked out the deck. It’s huge and much nicer than the old one. All in all I really enjoyed Mack’s Barge. The food was good, the place is nice, the staff is cool and the price was excellent. Entree, App and a few pints ran about $30. No complaints.
